Chapter 10 - THE ESCAPE FROM THE HOUSE OF LIES

The basement was silent.
Too silent.
I looked at Elena.
She looked back at me.
Three years.
Three years of pain.
Three years of questions.
And now we were trapped together.
There were a thousand things I wanted to say.
But there was no time.
âAre you hurt?â
Elena shook her head.
âNo.â
Her eyes filled with tears.
âI thought you hated me.â
I froze.
âWhat?â
She looked down.
âWhen Daniel showed me the evidence, I believed you were part of it.â
My heart sank.
âI never betrayed you.â
âI know now.â
Her voice broke.
âBut by the time I discovered the truth, Daniel had already taken everything.â
Perrin hugged her.
âMomâŠâ
She held him tightly.
âIâm sorry.â
He shook his head.
âYou came back.â
That was all he needed.
I turned toward the room.
âWe need to get out.â
Victor examined the walls.
âThere has to be another way.â
Rhea stood quietly.
I looked at her.
For months, I thought she was my enemy.
But now I saw something else.
Fear.
Guilt.
Pain.
âYou knew Elena was here.â
She nodded.
âYes.â
âWhy didnât you tell me?â
Her eyes filled with tears.
âBecause Daniel threatened Perrin.â
I wanted to stay angry.
But I couldnât ignore the truth.
She had made terrible choices.
But she had also been trapped.
Victor found something behind the shelves.
âA ventilation opening.â
I helped him remove the metal cover.
Behind it was a narrow passage.
Perrin looked at it.
âWeâre going in there?â
I smiled weakly.
âYes.â
He grabbed my hand.
âTogether?â
âTogether.â
One by one, we crawled through the dark tunnel.
The walls were cold.
The air was heavy.
But for the first time in yearsâŠ
my family was together.
Then we heard something.
Voices.
Above us.
We stopped.
Daniel.
And another man.
âEverything is ready.â
I recognized the second voice.
My heart dropped.
Because it belonged to someone I never expected.
My own attorney.
The man who had protected my company for ten years.
Daniel laughed.
âOnce James is arrested, everything belongs to us.â
Elena covered her mouth.
They werenât just destroying my life.
They had planned it all.
I pulled out my phone.
Started recording.
Then Daniel said something that changed everything.
âHe still doesnât know the accident wasnât an accident.â
Elena looked at me.
I felt the ground disappear beneath my feet.
âWhat accident?â
Daniel smiled.
âThe one I arranged.â
The recording continued.
May you like
And finallyâŠ
we had the proof.
