Chapter 12 - THE LAST PIECE OF THE PUZZLE

Nobody spoke.

The room felt frozen.

“My son?”

I replayed the video.

Daniel appeared calm.

Cold.

“You always thought Elena was the problem.”

He laughed.

“But she was protecting Perrin.”

Elena covered her mouth.

“No
”

Daniel continued.

“Perrin inherited something valuable.”

I looked at Elena.

“What does he mean?”

She looked terrified.

“James
”

“What?”

She took a deep breath.

“When my father died, he left Perrin shares.”

I stared at her.

“Shares?”

“In a company.”

I shook my head.

“That makes no sense.”

Elena looked at Victor.

“He knows.”

Victor nodded.

“Perrin’s inheritance controls a voting position worth hundreds of millions.”

My eyes widened.

Daniel wasn’t after my company.

He was after my son’s future.

Everything suddenly made sense.

The hidden room.

The threats.

The lies.

Perrin was never just a witness.

He was the reason.

A noise came from downstairs.

Everyone froze.

Victor whispered:

“We’re not alone.”

I turned off the lights.

Footsteps entered the office.

Daniel.

Again.

But this time

he wasn’t alone.

Two men stood beside him.

Daniel looked around.

“You really thought you could beat me?”

I stepped forward.

“You lost.”

He smiled.

“No.”

He pointed at Perrin.

“I won the moment you brought him here.”

My heart stopped.

Because he wasn’t looking at me.

He was looking at my son.

I moved instantly.

Nobody touches my child.

Daniel raised his hand.

“Careful.”

The men stepped closer.

Then something unexpected happened.

Rhea stepped between us.

“You’re not taking him.”

Daniel looked surprised.

“You?”

She shook her head.

“I spent too long being afraid of you.”

Elena moved beside her.

And for the first time

the two women stood together.

Not enemies.

Not rivals.

Survivors.

Daniel laughed.

“You think this changes anything?”

I held up my phone.

His face changed.

Because he saw the recording.

The real recording.

The one proving everything.

“You talked too much,” I said.

Daniel’s smile disappeared.

For the first time

he looked afraid.

Then sirens filled the street.

Police surrounded the building.

Victor had sent the evidence.

Daniel looked at me.

“This isn’t over.”

I walked closer.

“Yes, it is.”

But as officers entered the room

Daniel smiled.

A strange, confident smile.

Because even as they arrested him

he whispered:

“Ask Elena what she did before she disappeared.”

Elena’s face went pale.

I turned toward her.

And suddenly

May you like

I realized Daniel wasn’t finished.

Because Elena was hiding something too.
