Chapter 14 - THE MAN WHO CHOSE THE TRUTH

Nathan Whitmore had spent his entire life building something.

A company.

A reputation.

An empire.

Now he discovered everything was connected to a secret he never asked for.

A secret buried before he was born.

And everyone he trusted had lied.

But one thing remained clear.

He was done running.

The house was surrounded.

Not by Dominic’s men.

Not by Richard’s people.

By strangers.

Professional.

Silent.

Organized.

Margaret looked outside.

“There are too many.”

Nathan stood near the window.

“How many?”

“At least fifty.”

Victoria looked at him.

“What are we going to do?”

Nathan looked at the people around him.

His mother.

The woman who betrayed him.

The woman who once protected him.

The man who destroyed his family.

Everyone connected to the truth.

“We tell them the truth.”

Richard laughed.

“You think honesty will save you?”

Nathan looked at him.

“No.”

He stepped closer.

“But lies created this.”

The front doors opened.

A man entered.

Older.

Powerful.

Calm.

Everyone became silent.

Nathan immediately recognized him.

Not because they had met.

Because he had seen his name before.

On documents.

On hidden accounts.

On files marked confidential.

“Adrian Vale.”

The man smiled.

“So the Whitmore heir finally knows his name.”

Nathan stared.

“You’re the owner.”

Adrian nodded.

“The original owner.”

Richard stepped forward.

“You have no right to be here.”

Adrian looked at him.

“You stole from me.”

Richard smiled.

“And you failed to stop me.”

Adrian’s expression remained cold.

“Because I was waiting.”

Nathan frowned.

“Waiting for what?”

Adrian looked at him.

“For you.”

Nathan felt anger rise.

“I’m not your weapon.”

Adrian smiled.

“Good.”

A pause.

“Because weapons break.”

He looked around the room.

“I needed someone who could choose.”

Nathan stared.

“Choose what?”

“The truth.”

Adrian revealed everything.

Years ago, Nathan’s grandfather stole money from Vale’s organization.

His father discovered it.

He wanted to expose everything.

Richard wanted control.

Dominic wanted power.

Victoria wanted freedom.

Everyone had their own reason.

Everyone had their own secret.

But Nathan was different.

He had the chance to end it.

Adrian placed a folder on the table.

“This contains every illegal transaction.”

Nathan looked at it.

“Why give this to me?”

“Because you can destroy the empire.”

Everyone looked shocked.

Nathan opened the folder.

Inside were names.

Politicians.

Executives.

Powerful people.

People who would do anything to keep the truth hidden.

Victoria whispered:

“If you release this…”

Nathan nodded.

“Everything falls.”

Richard suddenly pulled a weapon.

Everyone reacted.

“Nobody moves.”

His eyes were filled with desperation.

“I built this.”

Nathan looked at him.

“No.”

Richard shook his head.

“I protected this family.”

“You destroyed it.”

Richard’s hand trembled.

“I did what I had to do.”

Nathan stepped forward.

“And that is what every monster says before they become one.”

Richard fired.

The bullet missed Nathan.

But hit the wall behind him.

Before he could fire again…

Victoria moved.

She pushed Nathan aside.

The bullet hit her shoulder.

She fell.

Nathan caught her.

“Victoria!”

She looked at him.

“I’m sorry.”

Nathan held her.

For the first time in months, he didn’t see a liar.

He saw a woman who had finally made a choice.

Richard tried to escape.

But James blocked the door.

Nathan looked at him.

“You?”

James lowered his head.

“I spent twelve years helping destroy your family.”

A pause.

“But I spent the last hour deciding what kind of man I wanted to be.”

He stepped aside.

“Not his.”

The police arrived minutes later.

Richard Whitmore was arrested.

Dominic Rainer surrendered after realizing he had lost control.

Samuel Grant confessed everything.

And Nathan stood in the middle of the house that had held so many lies.

Watching Victoria being taken to the hospital.

Not knowing if she would survive.

Three days later…

Nathan received one final message.

No name.

No number.

Just one sentence.

YOU STILL DON’T KNOW THE WHOLE TRUTH.

Nathan stared at the screen.

Because he knew one thing.

This story was ending.

But the consequences were just beginning.
