Chapter 11 - The Secret Victoria Buried

The investigation continued for weeks.

The Whitmore family’s reputation collapsed piece by piece.

Business partners stepped away.

Friends disappeared.

People who once praised Julian suddenly claimed they “always had doubts.”

But I knew something.

People like Julian didn’t fall completely unless you found the foundation.

And the foundation was Victoria.

She had controlled everything.

The image.

The money.

The silence.

I needed to know why.

Then I received an unexpected message.

From Claire.

“Meet me.”

No explanation.

No details.

Just an address.

When I arrived…

Claire looked different.

More nervous.

“I found something.”

I sat down.

“What?”

She handed me an old envelope.

“This is why I ran.”

I opened it carefully.

Inside was a document.

A birth record.

But it wasn’t Julian’s.

It was Victoria’s.

I looked confused.

“What does this mean?”

Claire took a deep breath.

“Victoria wasn’t born into the Whitmore family.”

I stared at her.

“What?”

“She married into it.”

“And after her husband died…”

“She took control.”

I looked at the document.

“So?”

“So she learned something.”

“What?”

“That wealthy families don’t stay powerful because they are kind.”

“They stay powerful because they control information.”

A cold feeling moved through me.

Claire continued.

“Victoria spent decades building an empire.”

“She didn’t see people as people.”

“She saw them as pieces.”

“And Julian learned from her.”

I looked down.

The truth was worse than I expected.

Julian wasn’t the beginning.

He was the result.

A person created by years of manipulation.

But that didn’t excuse him.

People choose who they become.

And Julian chose cruelty.

That night…

I returned home.

But something felt wrong.

My front door was unlocked.

I froze.

I knew I locked it.

Slowly…

I stepped inside.

The lights were off.

The house was silent.

Too silent.

Then I heard something.

A sound from upstairs.

Someone was inside.

I reached for my phone.

Before I could call anyone…

A voice came from the darkness.

“You really should have stopped looking.”

My blood turned cold.

I knew that voice.

Julian.

He stepped into the light.

But he wasn’t the confident man from the wedding.

He looked desperate.

“You broke into my house?”

He ignored the question.

“You don’t understand.”

I stared at him.

“No.”

“I understand now.”

His expression changed.

“Then you understand why this needs to end.”

I felt my heartbeat increase.

“What are you talking about?”

He looked at me.

And said something I never expected.

“I didn’t marry you because of money.”

“Then why?”

His answer froze me.

“Because you were connected to someone from my past.”

I frowned.

“What?”

Julian smiled.

May you like

A dark, bitter smile.

“You really don’t know, do you?”
