Chapter 10 - The Family That Built A Trap

The silence inside the Whitmore mansion felt heavier than any argument.

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

The letter remained on the table between us.

A single piece of paper.

Yet it carried enough truth to destroy the perfect image Julian and Victoria had spent years protecting.

Julian stared at me.

Not with love.

Not with regret.

With calculation.

The same expression I had seen the morning he threw the towel at me.

The expression of someone trying to figure out how to regain control.

“You broke into my private documents?”

His first response wasn’t denial.

It wasn’t an apology.

It was an accusation.

I almost smiled.

“You’re worried about how I found the truth?”

“You’re not worried about what the truth says?”

Julian’s jaw tightened.

Victoria stepped forward.

“Elena, you need to understand something.”

“No.”

“I need you to understand something.”

My voice was calm.

“You both believed I would react like Claire.”

The room became silent.

Julian’s eyes narrowed.

“You talked to her.”

“Yes.”

For the first time…

Fear appeared on his face.

Small.

Almost invisible.

But I saw it.

“You had no right.”

I looked at him.

“No right?”

“You ruined someone’s life.”

“You manipulated women.”

“You treated marriage like a business agreement.”

“And you’re worried about my right to know?”

Victoria’s expression hardened.

“You have no idea what you’re accusing us of.”

I placed another folder on the table.

Her eyes immediately moved toward it.

“What is that?”

“Evidence.”

Julian laughed.

A cold laugh.

“You think a few documents can destroy us?”

“No.”

I looked at him.

“I think your own actions will.”

I opened the folder.

Inside were copies of financial transfers.

Private messages.

Records of payments made to silence people.

Victoria’s face changed.

“Where did you get those?”

I didn’t answer.

Because that was exactly what they needed to know.

Not what I knew.

Who had helped me.

Julian stepped closer.

“Who gave you these?”

I looked directly into his eyes.

“That’s the question keeping you awake tonight, isn’t it?”

He stopped.

And I knew I was right.

Because powerful people were never afraid of enemies.

They were afraid of witnesses.

The next morning…

The story exploded.

Not because I released everything.

Because someone else did.

A journalist published an investigation into the Whitmore family.

The headline spread everywhere.

“THE PERFECT FAMILY IMAGE HIDES YEARS OF MANIPULATION.”

Julian called me twelve times.

I ignored every call.

Then Victoria called.

I answered.

Not because I wanted to hear her.

Because I wanted her to know.

I was no longer afraid.

“You did this.”

Her voice was shaking.

“No.”

“I revealed the truth.”

“You destroyed my family.”

I looked at the newspaper beside me.

“No.”

“You built your family on lies.”

She became silent.

Then she whispered:

“You don’t understand what you started.”

I looked outside.

At the city.

At my new life.

“I understand perfectly.”

“No.”

“You don’t.”

“What?”

“You think this is the end.”

“It’s not.”

“This is only the beginning.”

The call ended.

And for the first time…

May you like

I wondered.

What was Victoria still hiding?
