Chapter 4 - THE VIDEO THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

The ballroom lights dimmed.

Nobody spoke.

Not Chloe.

Not Eleanor.

Not even Dominic.

The giant screen above the stage came alive.

At first, everyone saw the same beautiful wedding reception they had been enjoying minutes earlier.

Guests laughing.

Servers walking.

The bride smiling.

Then the footage changed.

The camera zoomed toward the entrance.

A timestamp appeared.

Thirty minutes before Chloe screamed about her missing ring.

And there she was.

Chloe Whitmore.

Standing beside Amanda.

Her cousin looked nervous.

Chloe looked confident.

Too confident.

The entire ballroom watched as Chloe opened a small velvet box.

Inside was a diamond ring.

Her wedding ring.

A wave of gasps moved through the crowd.

Someone whispered,

“No way.”

The video continued.

Amanda looked uncomfortable.

“Are you sure about this?”

Chloe smiled.

“Relax.”

Her voice echoed through the speakers.

“She needs to learn her place.”

My stomach tightened.

Even though I already knew the truth, hearing her say it out loud still hurt.

Amanda looked around nervously.

“But what if someone finds out?”

Chloe laughed.

“Who will believe her?”

She paused.

Then added:

“Everyone already thinks she married Dominic because of money.”

The room went completely still.

Dominic’s face changed.

Because for the first time, he was hearing what his family really said when he wasn’t around.

The video continued.

Chloe handed the ring to Amanda.

“Hide it until I say.”

Amanda swallowed.

“And then?”

Chloe smiled.

“Then we make Vivienne the thief.”

The video ended.

The lights came back on.

Nobody moved.

Nobody breathed.

Then my father stepped forward.

“Now…”

His voice was calm.

Almost too calm.

“Does anyone still believe my daughter stole that ring?”

No one answered.

Because there was nothing left to say.

Chloe’s face had lost all color.

“That video is fake.”

The words came out quickly.

Too quickly.

My father looked at her.

“Interesting.”

He turned toward one of his lawyers.

“Please explain.”

The lawyer opened a folder.

“The footage was copied directly from the venue’s security system. The original file remains protected with a digital timestamp.”

He looked at Chloe.

“It cannot be edited without leaving evidence.”

Chloe’s mouth opened.

Nothing came out.

Eleanor suddenly stepped forward.

“This proves nothing.”

Everyone looked at her.

She pointed at me.

“She still embarrassed our family.”

I stared at her.

“Embarrassed your family?”

My voice was quiet.

“But your daughter planned to frame me.”

Eleanor’s expression hardened.

“You provoked her.”

A shocked whisper moved through the crowd.

Even Chloe looked at her mother.

Because Eleanor wasn’t defending innocence.

She was defending cruelty.

My father’s eyes narrowed.

“You believe humiliating a pregnant woman is acceptable?”

Eleanor lifted her chin.

“She needed to be taught a lesson.”

The room reacted instantly.

People started whispering.

Some guests stepped away.

Others looked disgusted.

My father looked at Dominic.

And that was when the question came.

“Did you know?”

Dominic froze.

The entire room waited.

I looked at my husband.

The man who had stood silent while I was torn apart.

The man who told me to wait.

The man who always asked me to understand his family.

“Did you know they were planning this?”

Dominic looked at me.

His eyes filled with guilt.

“No.”

A pause.

Then he whispered:

“I didn’t know.”

For the first time that night…

I believed him.

But it didn’t matter anymore.

Because knowing or not knowing did not change what he had done.

He watched.

He allowed it.

And he chose silence.

My father turned toward the security team.

“Remove the wedding footage copies from every device.”

Then he looked at Chloe.

“And contact the authorities.”

Chloe’s eyes widened.

“Wait.”

Her confidence disappeared.

“You’re actually doing this?”

My father stared at her.

“You tried to destroy my daughter’s reputation in front of two hundred people.”

He paused.

“So yes.”

“I am.”

Chloe looked around desperately.

Then her eyes landed on Dominic.

“Do something!”

Everyone looked at him.

Including me.

This was the moment.

The moment where he had to choose.

His wife.

Or his family.

Dominic opened his mouth.

But before he spoke…

his mother grabbed his arm.

May you like

And whispered something.

Something that made his face turn pale.
