Chapter 14 - THE TRUTH THAT SET ME FREE

The location was an old private warehouse outside the city.

Richard’s final hiding place.

The police surrounded the building before we entered.

This time, I wasn’t afraid.

Because I finally understood something.

The truth was no longer something I needed to chase.

It was something they were desperate to hide.

Inside the warehouse, we found him.

Richard Hale.

Older.

Tired.

But still arrogant.

He stood beside a table covered with documents.

When he saw me, he smiled.

“Vivienne Carter.”

I stared at him.

“You destroyed my family.”

He shook his head.

“No.”

He laughed.

“Your father destroyed himself by trusting people.”

My father stepped forward.

“You betrayed me.”

Richard smiled.

“You were always too trusting.”

The words were cruel.

But my father didn’t react.

Because he had already won.

Richard didn’t realize it.

He was surrounded.

“Give us the documents,” the officer ordered.

Richard laughed.

“You think arresting me changes anything?”

He looked at me.

“You still don’t know the truth.”

I felt my stomach tighten.

“What truth?”

He picked up a file.

“This.”

He threw it onto the table.

Dominic reached for it.

I stopped him.

“No.”

I opened it myself.

Inside were documents.

Old documents.

My hands trembled as I read.

Then I froze.

Because it wasn’t about money.

It wasn’t about my father.

It was about Dominic.

Years before we met…

Dominic’s father had tried to expose Richard.

He discovered the fraud.

He was preparing to testify.

But before he could…

he disappeared.

Richard wasn’t just connected to Dominic’s family.

He was responsible for destroying it.

Dominic looked at the papers.

His face went pale.

“My father…”

Richard smiled.

“He was weak.”

Dominic looked at him.

“No.”

His voice changed.

“My father was brave.”

For the first time, Dominic wasn’t afraid.

He wasn’t silent.

He stepped forward.

“You ruined my family.”

Richard smiled.

“And your mother helped me.”

Everyone froze.

Eleanor.

The final secret.

The woman who always acted powerful.

The woman who controlled everyone.

She had not been protecting the family.

She had been protecting herself.

Richard continued:

“She knew everything.”

Dominic closed his eyes.

The pain on his face was unbearable.

I stepped beside him.

Not because everything was fixed.

Not because I had forgotten.

Because in that moment, he finally understood what I had felt.

Betrayed.

Used.

Alone.

The police arrested Richard.

The evidence was overwhelming.

Fraud.

Manipulation.

Conspiracy.

But before they took him away, he looked at me.

“You think you won?”

I stared at him.

“Yes.”

He laughed.

“You lost the moment you trusted people.”

I shook my head.

“No.”

I looked at Dominic.

Then at my father.

“Trusting the wrong people hurt me.”

May you like

I stepped closer.

“But learning the truth saved me.”
