Chapter 2 - THE FAMILY WALKED IN

The glass doors opened.
And everything changed.
Jason’s parents entered first.
Behind them were his younger sister, his uncle, his closest friends, and several relatives who had traveled across the country for our wedding.
They walked in smiling.
Until they saw the room.
The smiles disappeared instantly.
“What is happening here?”
Jason’s mother, Linda, stopped in the doorway.
Her eyes moved from her son.
To the woman in the bed.
Then to me.
Standing there in my wedding dress.
Crying.
Broken.
“Emily?” she whispered.
Nobody spoke.
The silence was worse than screaming.
Jason immediately moved.
“Mom, wait. This is not what you think.”
Linda looked at him.
“What exactly am I supposed to think?”
He opened his mouth.
Nothing came out.
His father, Robert, stepped forward.
“Jason.”
The disappointment in his voice was obvious.
“Tell me this isn’t true.”
Jason looked nervous.
“Dad, I can explain.”
“You already said that.”
I watched as his confidence slowly disappeared.
For months, Jason had controlled every conversation.
Every excuse.
Every lie.
But now he had an entire room watching him.
And for the first time, he had nowhere to hide.
The other woman slowly stood.
“Jason, you told me they would never find out.”
The room exploded.
Everyone turned toward her.
Linda’s face changed.
“Never find out?”
I closed my eyes.
There it was.
The truth.
Not an accident.
Not a mistake.
A plan.
Jason looked furious.
“Why would you say that?”
The woman crossed her arms.
“Because that’s what you told me.”
His family stared at him.
His father took a step back.
“I can’t believe you.”
Jason looked at me.
“Emily, please. You have to believe me.”
I stared at him.
The man I almost married.
The man who had spent years making me believe I was safe.
“I believed you once.”
My voice was quiet.
“That was my mistake.”
Jason’s face hardened.
For a moment, the guilt disappeared.
Something colder appeared.
“You’re really going to destroy me over this?”
I looked at him.
“Destroy you?”
I laughed through my tears.
“You destroyed yourself.”
Then Linda noticed something.
She looked at my face.
The bruises.
The marks.
Her expression changed.
“Emily…”
Her voice lowered.
“What happened to you?”
The room became silent again.
Jason immediately answered.
“She fell.”
I looked at him.
A slow realization passed through everyone’s faces.
Because they knew.
They knew Jason was lying.
Linda stepped closer.
“She fell?”
I didn’t answer.
I didn’t need to.
My silence said everything.
Robert looked at his son.
“Jason…”
But before anyone could say another word, the other woman suddenly spoke.
“Maybe she should tell them the whole story.”
Everyone turned.
She smiled slightly.
And I knew.
She was about to reveal something even worse.
Something Jason had been hiding from everyone.
May you like
Something that could destroy more than just a wedding.
