Chapter 13 - MY FATHER’S FINAL MESSAGE

The room was silent.

Nobody dared to breathe.

My father’s voice filled the penthouse.

A voice I thought I would never hear again.

“If you are watching this, it means I failed to protect my daughter.”

My hands covered my mouth.

Tears immediately filled my eyes.

“Dad…”

Daniel stood beside me, watching the screen carefully.

The video continued.

“Emily, if you’re seeing this, I need you to understand something. The people closest to you may not always be the people who love you.”

My heart broke.

Because those words were exactly what I had learned tonight.

The man I loved betrayed me.

The people I trusted helped him.

And my father knew.

“I spent years building everything for you. Not because I wanted you to live a wealthy life, but because I wanted you to have freedom.”

The screen showed my father sitting in his office.

Older.

Tired.

But still determined.

“Years ago, Victor Hale tried to destroy everything I built.”

Everyone in the room froze.

“Victor was my business partner. My friend. Someone I trusted.”

Daniel lowered his head.

“He stole from the company and blamed me.”

My father continued.

“He disappeared before anyone could prove the truth.”

I looked at Daniel.

“Everyone thought he died.”

Daniel nodded.

“But your father knew better.”

The video continued.

“Victor never left. He waited.”

A chill went through me.

“He waited until my family was vulnerable.”

My father looked directly into the camera.

“And then he found someone young, ambitious, and desperate enough to do his work.”

The screen changed.

A picture appeared.

Jason.

My stomach twisted.

“He chose Jason Miller.”

Nobody spoke.

Jason had never been the mastermind.

He had been a weapon.

A weapon pointed at me.

My father’s voice continued.

“Jason will try to make you believe he loves you. He will make you feel safe. He will make you doubt yourself.”

Tears rolled down my face.

Because every word was true.

“Do not hate yourself for trusting him.”

I closed my eyes.

That sentence hurt the most.

Because I had been blaming myself.

“I want you to remember one thing, Emily.”

The video paused.

Then my father said:

“Being kind does not make you weak. Trusting someone does not make you foolish. But once someone shows you who they are, believe them.”

The video ended.

Nobody moved.

Then Daniel spoke.

“Your father left one more thing.”

I looked at him.

“What?”

He opened the folder.

Inside was a small USB drive.

“He knew Victor would come back.”

I stared at it.

“What’s on it?”

Daniel looked at me.

“The evidence that can destroy him.”

Before anyone could respond, the lights suddenly went out.

The entire penthouse went dark.

Someone screamed.

Then the emergency lights turned on.

And standing near the entrance…

Was Victor Hale.

Alive.

Older.

Smiling.

“Your father always underestimated one thing.”

Nobody moved.

Victor looked directly at me.

“He thought protecting you meant hiding the truth.”

He stepped inside.

May you like

“But the truth was always mine.”
