Chapter 10 - THE PERSON BEHIND THE PLAN

The message stayed on my screen.
“You found Jason. Now try to find me.”
For a few seconds, I couldn’t move.
The words felt like a warning.
Not a threat.
A challenge.
Someone wanted me to know they were still watching.
Daniel noticed my expression.
“What happened?”
I slowly handed him my phone.
He read the message.
His face changed.
That was the first time I saw fear in his eyes.
“Do you know who sent this?”
He didn’t answer immediately.
And that scared me.
“Daniel.”
He looked at me.
“I have an idea.”
Everyone in the room became silent.
Linda stepped forward.
“Who?”
Daniel looked around.
“I don’t want to accuse anyone without proof.”
I laughed bitterly.
“Proof?”
I looked at Jason’s family.
“Tonight I found out the man I was going to marry planned to steal from me. I think we’re past being careful.”
Nobody spoke.
Daniel sighed.
“There is one person who had access to Jason’s plans.”
“Who?”
He looked at Linda.
Her face changed.
“Why are you looking at me?”
“I’m not accusing you.”
“Then why?”
Daniel looked away.
“Because someone accessed Jason’s private files through a family account.”
Linda’s eyes widened.
“That’s impossible.”
Robert frowned.
“What family account?”
Daniel didn’t answer.
Instead, he opened his laptop.
A few seconds later, several documents appeared on the screen.
“These are the files Jason used.”
I stepped closer.
There were dates.
Emails.
Financial records.
And then I saw it.
A name.
A name that made my heart stop.
“Rebecca?”
Everyone looked confused.
Jason’s sister, Rebecca, slowly stepped backward.
“No.”
My eyes moved to her.
“Why is your name here?”
She shook her head.
“I don’t know.”
Daniel looked at the documents.
“Rebecca helped Jason create access codes.”
The room exploded.
“That’s a lie!” Rebecca shouted.
Robert looked at his daughter.
“Rebecca?”
She started crying.
“I didn’t know what he was planning.”
I stared at her.
“You helped him.”
She covered her face.
“I thought he just wanted to understand the family finances.”
“And you believed that?”
She looked at me.
“I trusted my brother.”
The words hurt.
Because I understood them.
She trusted someone who was lying.
Just like I did.
But Daniel wasn’t finished.
“There is something else.”
Everyone looked at him.
“Rebecca wasn’t the person who sent the message.”
My heart dropped.
“Then who was?”
Daniel looked at the screen.
“There was another login.”
A hidden account.
A secret user.
Someone who had been watching everything.
Someone who knew about Jason.
Someone who knew about me.
I whispered:
“Who?”
Daniel enlarged the file.
And a name appeared.
My blood turned cold.
Because it was impossible.
The name belonged to someone who shouldn’t have had access to anything.
May you like
Someone who was supposed to be gone.
