THE MAN WHO KNEW MY FATHER / Chapter 9 / 15

Chapter 9 - THE FILE MY FATHER HID

Michael Russo was not a man who showed fear.

I learned that quickly.

Even when things went wrong, he stayed calm.

Even when people threatened him, he remained controlled.

But after Vanessa’s call…

Something changed.

“What did my father start?”

Michael didn’t answer.

“Michael.”

He looked at me.

“There are things your father wanted to tell you.”

“But he didn’t.”

“No.”

“Why?”

Michael looked away.

“Because he thought he could handle it himself.”

I shook my head.

“That sounds exactly like him.”

A sad smile appeared.

“Yes.”

We returned to the old office.

The place where my father kept his secrets.

Michael opened a locked cabinet.

Inside was another folder.

Different from the others.

Older.

Thicker.

My name wasn’t on it.

There was only one word.

RAVEN.

I looked at Michael.

“What is Raven?”

He hesitated.

“Your father’s last investigation.”

I opened the folder.

Inside were photographs.

Companies.

Names.

Connections.

At the center of everything…

Was Vanessa.

But there was something else.

A company.

A corporation I recognized.

Because Daniel had mentioned it before.

“Whitmore Global.”

Michael nodded.

“Sarah’s family company.”

My stomach dropped.

“So Sarah and Vanessa were connected from the beginning.”

“Yes.”

I kept reading.

Then I found something that made my hands shake.

A letter.

Written by my father.

Michael…

If you are reading this, then I failed to protect Emma.

I covered my mouth.

Michael looked down.

The letter continued.

The people closest to me are the ones I fear most.

They know my weaknesses.

They know my daughter.

They know exactly where to hurt me.

A tear rolled down my face.

My father wasn’t just protecting money.

He was protecting me.

Then I reached the final page.

One name.

The person who started everything.

The person who had been behind the entire operation.

My breathing stopped.

Because it wasn’t Daniel.

It wasn’t Vanessa.

It wasn’t Sarah.

It was someone else.

Someone whose name made Michael immediately take the paper from my hand.

“Emma, stop.”

I looked at him.

“Why?”

“Because you’re not ready.”

My voice became stronger.

“No.”

I looked at the paper.

“I’m ready.”

Michael stayed silent.

I pulled it back.

And read the name.

The name my father had written as his greatest threat.

The name that explained everything.

My father’s former partner.

The man everyone thought disappeared years ago.

The man who knew every secret about my family.

I whispered:

“Richard Blackwell.”

Michael closed his eyes.

“Yes.”

I looked at him.

“Who is he?”

Michael answered quietly.

“The man who taught your father how to build an empire.”

A pause.

“And the man who spent twenty years trying to destroy it.”

Suddenly, every piece connected.

The money.

The betrayal.

Daniel.

Vanessa.

Sarah.

This was never about my inheritance.

It was about revenge.

Then Michael’s phone rang.

He answered.

His face changed.

“What?”

Silence.

Then:

“Are you sure?”

He looked at me.

And I knew something terrible had happened.

“What is it?”

Michael slowly lowered the phone.

“Richard Blackwell is not missing.”

My heart raced.

“Then where is he?”

Michael looked toward the window.

“He’s been living in New York.”

I whispered:

“Where?”

Michael looked at me.

“At the one place you never thought to look.”

I felt a chill.

“Where?”

May you like

His answer destroyed the last piece of my old life.

“Inside your father’s company.”
