CHAPTER 3 — The Key That Should Not Exist
The judge ordered Adrian to empty his pocket.
At first, Adrian refused.
“I object. This is completely irrelevant.”
But the judge’s voice became colder.
“Mr. Cole. Empty your pocket.”
Slowly, Adrian pulled out a small old brass key.
Emma immediately began crying.
“That’s my daddy’s.”
Victoria stepped forward.
“Don’t listen to her! She’s just a child.”
But Emma shook her head.
“No. Daddy showed me this key before he disappeared.”
The judge looked at the key carefully.
“Where did you get this?”
Adrian stayed silent.
And that silence told everyone more than words could.
The courtroom discovered that the key belonged to a private safety deposit box registered under Daniel Hart’s name.
