CHAPTER 1 — The Voice From The Dead

CHAPTER 1 — The Voice From The Dead
The courtroom had never been that silent.
The little girl stood barefoot on the polished wooden floor, clutching the metallic pink recorder with both hands. Her pink nightgown was wrinkled, her cheeks were wet with tears, but her eyes were filled with a courage no one expected from a seven-year-old child.
The woman in the royal blue dress stared at her as if she had seen a ghost.
“Judge, this child is confused,” she said sharply. “Someone is manipulating her. She cannot be allowed to destroy innocent people with a fantasy.”
But the judge didn’t look away from the girl.
“What is your name, sweetheart?”
The girl swallowed.
“Emma.”
“And what did you record, Emma?”
The little girl looked at the woman.
“The truth about my daddy.”
A murmur spread through the courtroom.
The woman’s expression changed instantly.
Because everyone in that room knew one thing.
Emma’s father had been dead for five years.
The judge nodded toward the recorder.
“Play it.”
Emma pressed the button.
Static filled the courtroom.
Then…
A man’s voice echoed through the speakers.
A voice that made several people stand frozen.
A voice that belonged to Daniel Hart.
The man who had supposedly died in a car accident.
“I know what you did,” the recording said.
The woman’s face turned completely pale.
May you like
Because Daniel wasn’t supposed to be able to speak.
He wasn’t supposed to exist.
