Chapter 7 - The Unraveling Web

The next morning, Ryan met District Attorney Sarah Miller in her fourth-floor office.
They plugged Julian's flash drive into a secure terminal.
The files opened into dozens of scanned documents, medical reports, and private wire transfers dated from twelve years ago.
"This is extraordinary," Miller said, zooming in on a series of bank transfers from an account controlled by Evelyn to a private medical lab in Chicago.
"Your father was being treated for a heart condition, correct?"
"Yes," Ryan said, feeling a cold dread settle over his stomach.
"He was on blood thinners for years."
"According to these lab records," Miller pointed at the screen, "the dosage levels in his routine blood work were altered three months before his death."
"The company that provided those lab reports was a subsidiary owned outright by the Whitmore trust."
Ryan leaned against the edge of the desk, processing the overwhelming truth.
His mother hadn't just tried to destroy his wife and take his son.
She had systematically removed anyone who stood in the way of her total authority over the family fortune.
"Can we use this in the current trial?" Ryan asked.
"Not directly for the assault charge," Miller explained.
"But it gives us the foundation to open a cold-case homicide investigation."

"If we file these documents, the judge will freeze all of Evelyn's personal accounts completely."
"She won't be able to pay her legal defense team."
