Chapter 4 - The Sealed Envelopes

Two days after the incident, Ryan returned to the house on Willow Street to collect clothing for Maya and Oliver.
The front door, usually pristine, bore yellow evidence tape across the frame where the police had finished their forensic sweep.
He stepped into the silent house.
The silence felt heavy, filled with memories of his mother's overbearing presence.
He walked up the stairs to Evelyn's private study, a room he had been forbidden to enter throughout his childhood.
The oak desk was cleared, but the bottom drawer remained slightly ajar.
Ryan pulled it open.
Inside rested a leather binder labeled Project Horizon.
He opened it to reveal detailed records of Maya's background, stretching back to before she met Ryan.
There were bank statements, background checks, and forged emails designed to look like Maya was selling family secrets to rival business firms.
Every piece of evidence had been fabricated with surgical precision.
At the back of the binder lay a sealed envelope stamped with the name of an off-shore legal firm based in the Cayman Islands.
Ryan broke the wax seal and pulled out the document inside.
It was a contract surrendering all parental rights of Oliver Whitmore to Evelyn Whitmore, pre-signed by a public notary whose signature was clearly forged.

She hadn't just planned to frame Maya.
She had built a completely fraudulent system to take Oliver legally before Ryan could even realize what was happening.
