Chapter 2 - The Security Footage That Changed My Family Forever

Two days after the wedding, I received the call that changed everything.
“Mr. Whitaker?”
The voice belonged to Daniel, the manager of the wedding estate.
“Yes?”
“We recovered something from the security system.”
My heart immediately tightened.
“What kind of something?”
“A video file.”
“What video?”
There was a long silence.
Then he answered.
“The bridal corridor camera.”
I stopped walking.
The bridal corridor.
The place where Ellen disappeared for almost fifteen minutes during the wedding.
The place Michael claimed he knew nothing about.
“When can I see it?”
“Today.”
“I’ll bring my wife.”
“No.”
His answer came too quickly.
I frowned.
“No?”
“Please come alone.”
I felt a chill run through my body.
“Why?”
“Because you need to see this before anyone else changes the story.”
Those words followed me all the way there.
When I arrived, Daniel was waiting outside.
His face told me everything.
This was not a normal conversation.
He led me into a small office.
Closed the door.
Locked it.
Then turned on the computer.
“Mr. Whitaker…”
He hesitated.
“Before you watch this, I need you to understand something.”
“What?”
“The file was damaged.”
“Some parts are missing.”
“But what remains is clear.”
I nodded.
“Play it.”
The screen lit up.
At first, everything looked normal.
Guests walking.
Staff moving.
Then Ellen appeared.
She was standing alone in the hallway.
She looked confused.
Then Cassandra appeared.
My daughter-in-law.
The woman who had smiled in every wedding picture.
The woman who had called Ellen “Mom” during the ceremony.
But now…
She looked completely different.
Her face was cold.
Angry.
Michael walked into the frame.
My son.
My own son.
Cassandra pointed at Ellen.
Even without sound, I could see the hatred in her expression.
Then Daniel turned on the audio.
Cassandra’s voice filled the room.
“You had to show up wearing that?”
Ellen looked confused.
“What are you talking about?”
“You’re making this wedding look cheap.”
My hands tightened.
Cassandra continued.
“You always do this.”
“You make everything about yourself.”
Ellen looked shocked.
“Cassandra, I have never done anything to you.”
Then it happened.
The sound of the slap echoed through the office.
I stood up.
My chair moved backward.
My body went completely still.
Cassandra had hit my wife.
But I wasn’t prepared for what happened next.
Michael moved toward Ellen.
For one second…
I thought he was going to help her.
I thought he was going to protect his mother.
Instead…
He grabbed her arm.
The same arm covered in bruises.
I stopped breathing.
“Michael…”
I whispered his name.
But the man on the screen didn’t hear me.
He pulled his mother backward.
“You need to stop causing problems.”
My blood turned cold.
Problems?
His mother was the problem?
Then Michael pushed her.
Hard.
Ellen crashed into the wooden wall.
She fell to the floor.
Cassandra looked down at her.
Then she kicked Ellen’s shoe away.
Michael looked at his mother.
He didn’t run to her.
He didn’t apologize.
He didn’t call for help.
He simply walked away.
Back to his wedding reception.
Back to the celebration.
Leaving his mother on the floor.
The video ended.
The room became silent.
Daniel looked at me.
“Mr. Whitaker…”
I raised my hand.
I couldn’t speak.
Not because I was weak.
Because if I spoke at that moment…
I wasn’t sure what I would say.
After several seconds, I finally whispered.
“I need a copy.”
Daniel nodded.
“A copy?”
“No.”
I looked directly at him.
“A raw copy.”
“On a flash drive.”
“Right now.”
He understood.
This was no longer about anger.
This was about proof.
When I got home, Ellen was sitting in the living room.
She looked at me.
“Where were you?”
I held the flash drive inside my pocket.
“I had something important to handle.”
She studied my face.
“Robert…”
I looked at the woman I loved.
The woman who still believed our son had a good heart.
“We need to talk.”
She became nervous.
“What happened?”
I looked away.
“Not yet.”
Because before I confronted Michael…
May you like
I needed to know exactly what he believed he owned.
And the answer was more shocking than the video itself.
