Chapter 12: Karina’s Choice

Chapter 12: Karina’s Choice

Jorge smiled when he saw me.

“My daughter always did have terrible taste in men.”

Karina’s face was pale, but her eyes remained fixed on mine.

“I’m sorry,” she whispered.

“For which part?” I asked.

Jorge laughed.

“Still discussing your marriage? How sentimental.”

I held up the key.

“Release them.”

“First, tell me where the box is.”

“You know where.”

“The bank requires two members of the Ruiz bloodline.”

His gaze shifted toward Rafael.

“That inconvenience ends tonight.”

I realized then that Jorge never intended to exchange anyone.

He wanted the key, Rafael’s signature, and no surviving witness.

I stepped closer.

“You spent nine years using your own daughter.”

“She was useful.”

Karina flinched.

Jorge didn’t even look at her.

“You told me this was about restoring our family,” she said.

“It is.”

“You poisoned an old woman.”

“A necessary pressure point.”

“You ordered Rodrigo’s death.”

“My father made that decision.”

“And you covered it up.”

Jorge’s jaw tightened.

Karina slowly reached into her coat.

The gunman behind her reacted.

She pulled out not a weapon but her phone.

The screen showed an active livestream.

Thousands of viewers were watching.

Jorge’s face changed.

Karina had been broadcasting his confession through a reporter’s secure account from the moment I arrived.

The gunman lunged for the phone.

Karina dropped to the ground.

I struck him with the metal key case.

The gun fired into the air.

Police lights flooded the yard.

Marisol’s officers stormed through both gates.

Jorge grabbed Rafael and pressed a pistol beneath his jaw.

“Back away!”

Everyone froze.

Jorge pulled Rafael toward a waiting car.

Then Dr. Valez stepped from behind a concrete pillar, his wounded arm in a sling.

“You should have killed me when you had the chance,” Valez said.

Jorge turned.

That single moment was enough.

Rafael drove his shoulder backward.

The gun fell.

Marisol tackled Jorge before he could reach it.

As officers dragged him away, he stared at Karina.

“You destroyed your own family.”

May you like

Karina looked at me through tears.

“No,” she said. “I finally stopped you from destroying his.”
