Chapter 6 - THE MAN BEHIND THE LIES

Edward read the note again.
Ask your father.
The words made no sense.
His father had been dead for fifteen years.
Unless…
Someone wanted him to believe something.
“Marcus.”
“Yes?”
“Find everything about my father.”
Marcus looked surprised.
“Your father?”
“Yes.”
Edward’s voice was quiet.
“Something tells me this started before Victoria.”
Meanwhile, Emma stood alone in the hallway.
She looked broken.
“Dad?”
Edward turned.
She looked at him with tears in her eyes.
“What if everything we knew was a lie?”
Edward walked toward her.
This time, he didn’t act like a businessman.
He acted like a father.
“I failed you once.”
Emma looked down.
“I won’t do it again.”
For the first time in months, she believed him.
But before they could leave…
The mansion alarm suddenly went off.
Security rushed inside.
“Sir!”
Edward turned.
“What happened?”
The guard looked terrified.
“Someone entered the old west wing.”
Edward frowned.
“That area has been locked for years.”
The guard handed him a small envelope.
“It was left on the floor.”
Edward opened it.
Inside was an old photograph.
A photograph of Sarah.
But she wasn’t alone.
Standing beside her was a man Edward recognized instantly.
His own father.
And written on the back were the words:
“Your father knew Sarah was alive.”
Edward felt the ground disappear beneath him.
Because the man he had spent his entire life trusting…
may have been the person who helped destroy his family.
Then, from the darkness of the hallway, a voice whispered:
“Edward…”
Everyone turned.
An elderly man stepped forward.
A man Edward thought had died twenty years ago.
His father’s former assistant.
And he was holding a file.
“The truth about Sarah Hayes is inside this.”
Edward stared at him.
“Who are you working for?”
The old man looked toward the hidden cameras.
Then whispered:
“The same person who has been watching your daughter since the day she was born.”
The lights suddenly went out.
And when they came back on…
The old man was gone.
May you like
Only the file remained.
