Chapter 9 - Isabella’s Impossible Choice

Victoria held the photograph with trembling hands.
Alive.
After ten years…
Isabella was alive.
Maya stood beside her.
“Is that my mom?”
Victoria couldn’t speak.
She just nodded.
The little girl covered her mouth.
A thousand emotions crossed her face.
Happiness.
Fear.
Confusion.
“Why didn’t she come back?”
Victoria had no answer.
Not yet.
Behind the photograph was another clue.
A small address.
No name.
No explanation.
Just a location.
Daniel looked at it.
“This could be a trap.”
Victoria knew.
But she also knew something else.
If there was even a small chance Isabella was alive…
She had to go.
The address led them to a small farmhouse outside the city.
Old.
Quiet.
Almost forgotten.
Victoria walked toward the door.
Her heart was racing.
She knocked.
Nothing.
She knocked again.
Then a voice came from inside.
“Who is it?”
Victoria stopped breathing.
That voice.
She knew that voice.
“Isabella?”
Silence.
Then the door opened.
A woman stood there.
Older.
Thinner.
Her hair had turned darker.
But the eyes were the same.
Victoria couldn’t move.
Neither could Isabella.
For ten years, they had imagined this moment.
But neither knew what to say.
Finally Isabella whispered:
“Victoria.”
Victoria’s eyes filled with tears.
“You’re alive.”
Isabella looked down.
“I’m sorry.”
That was the wrong thing to say.
Victoria stepped forward.
“Sorry?”
Her voice broke.
“Do you know how many nights I thought you were dead?”
Isabella cried.
“I know.”
“No, you don’t.”
Victoria’s anger came out.
“You left me.”
“I had no choice.”
“You had a daughter!”
Isabella looked past her.
At Maya.
And the moment she saw her…
Everything changed.
“Maya…”
The little girl froze.
She didn’t move.
She didn’t speak.
Because children understand something adults forget.
Hope can hurt.
“Mom?”
Isabella covered her mouth.
Then she fell to her knees.
Maya ran.
Straight into her arms.
For ten years…
Mother and daughter held onto each other.
Crying.
Apologizing.
Trying to repair a decade of pain in one moment.
Victoria watched silently.
Because she finally understood.
Isabella wasn’t gone.
She had been fighting.
Later that night, Isabella explained everything.
Adrian wasn’t just stealing money.
He was hiding something bigger.
The Harrington family fortune.
A secret inheritance.
And evidence proving several powerful people had built their companies through illegal deals.
“I found everything,” Isabella said.
Victoria stared.
“And they came after you.”
Isabella nodded.
“I tried to expose them.”
“Why disappear?”
Isabella looked at Maya.
“Because they threatened my daughter.”
Victoria became silent.
“Who?”
Isabella looked terrified.
“The person behind Adrian.”
“Who?”
Before Isabella could answer…
The farmhouse windows shattered.
Everyone dropped.
A gunshot.
Then another.
Victoria pulled Maya down.
Someone outside shouted:
“GIVE US THE GIRL!”
Victoria looked at Isabella.
“What girl?”
Isabella’s face turned pale.
“Maya.”
Victoria held the child tighter.
“Why do they want her?”
Isabella whispered:
“Because she has something they need.”
“What?”
May you like
Isabella looked at Maya’s necklace.
“The final key.”
