Chapter 6 - The Billionaire Who Became A Target

After watching Isabella’s final message, Victoria didn’t sleep.
Not because she was afraid.
Because she was angry.
For ten years, she believed she had lost her closest friend.
Now she knew Isabella had been fighting alone.
And nobody had helped her.
The next morning, Victoria made one call.
“Find Adrian Cross.”
Her security chief looked surprised.
“Ms. Harrington…”
“Today.”
“Understood.”
Victoria walked toward the kitchen.
Maya was sitting at the table eating breakfast.
A normal breakfast.
Something simple.
Toast.
Fruit.
Milk.
But Victoria noticed something.
Maya kept looking at the door.
“What’s wrong?”
The girl shrugged.
“Nothing.”
Victoria sat down.
“Maya.”
The girl looked up.
“Are you waiting for someone?”
Silence.
Then Maya whispered:
“My mom said someone would come.”
Victoria felt nervous.
“Who?”
“I don’t know.”
“Did she tell you anything else?”
Maya looked at Charlie.
“She said…”
The girl’s voice became smaller.
“She said if they found me, I should run.”
Victoria froze.
“Who is they?”
Before Maya could answer…
The entire house alarm exploded.
Everyone jumped.
Security rushed inside.
“Ms. Harrington!”
“What happened?”
The guard held a small envelope.
“This was left at the front gate.”
Victoria took it.
No name.
No address.
Only one sentence written on the front.
“YOU SHOULD HAVE LET THE PAST STAY BURIED.”
Her face became cold.
She opened it.
Inside was a photograph.
A photograph of Victoria.
Taken that morning.
Inside her own house.
Victoria’s blood ran cold.
Someone had been inside.
Someone had been watching them.
The police arrived.
The security footage was checked.
But nothing appeared.
No one entered.
No one left.
It was impossible.
Until one officer noticed something.
A camera angle.
A reflection.
“Wait.”
Everyone looked.
The officer zoomed in.
On the glass window behind Victoria’s office…
A shadow.
Someone standing there.
Watching.
Victoria stared.
Because she recognized the shape.
Adrian.
That evening, Victoria moved Maya to a private safe house.
But before leaving…
Maya stopped.
“Victoria?”
“Yes?”
“Are you going to leave me too?”
The question broke her heart.
Victoria kneeled.
“No.”
“Everyone leaves.”
Victoria looked into her eyes.
“I’m not everyone.”
Maya stayed silent.
Victoria held her hand.
“I promise.”
For the first time…
Maya smiled.
But neither of them noticed the black car parked across the street.
Inside sat Adrian Cross.
Watching.
Waiting.
He picked up his phone.
“They found the notebook.”
A voice answered.
“Then we move faster.”
Adrian looked toward the house.
“And the girl?”
A pause.
Then the voice replied:
“Bring her back.”
Adrian smiled.
“Alive?”
May you like
The voice became colder.
“No.”
