Chapter 5 - The Woman Who Was Never Supposed To Be Found

Leo Rossi had spent his entire life searching for power.

Money.

Control.

Respect.

But now, for the first time, he wanted something money could never buy.

A second chance.

His mother.

The next morning, Leo, Clare, and Daniel flew to Boston.

Clare sat quietly during the entire flight.

She felt like she didn’t belong.

Everyone around Leo wore expensive clothes.

Everyone spoke with confidence.

And she was just the housekeeper who accidentally changed everything.

Leo noticed.

“You’re quiet.”

Clare looked out the window.

“I’m wondering why I’m here.”

Leo frowned.

“Because you’re the reason we found her.”

“I only cleaned a room.”

“No.”

He shook his head.

“You listened when nobody else did.”

That sentence stayed with her.

Because Clare knew what it felt like to be ignored.

She knew what it felt like when people decided your voice didn’t matter.

When they arrived in Boston, Daniel led them to a small neighborhood outside the city.

Nothing like the Rossi mansion.

No security.

No luxury.

Just a quiet street with old houses.

They stopped in front of a small blue house.

Leo stared.

“She lived here?”

Daniel nodded.

“For eight years.”

Leo couldn’t move.

Eight years.

His mother had been alive for eight years.

Only miles away.

And he never knew.

He walked toward the door.

Then stopped.

“What if she doesn’t want to see me?”

Clare looked at him.

“Why wouldn’t she?”

“Because I wasn’t there.”

Clare’s expression softened.

“Leo.”

“She was the one who was taken away.”

“You were the one who was lied to.”

He looked at her.

For the first time, Leo allowed himself to believe he wasn’t guilty.

The door opened before they knocked.

An elderly woman stood there.

Small.

Fragile.

A scar visible on the left side of her neck.

Clare immediately recognized her.

Her breath caught.

“That’s her.”

Leo froze.

The world disappeared.

The woman looked at him.

And dropped the cup in her hand.

“Leo?”

That one word destroyed twenty years of pain.

“Mom…”

Maria Rossi covered her mouth.

Tears filled her eyes.

“My son…”

Leo stepped forward.

Then stopped.

Because he didn’t know if he was allowed.

Maria answered the question without words.

She pulled him into her arms.

And Leo Rossi, the man feared by everyone, finally broke.

He cried like the child who lost his mother.

Inside the small house, Maria told them everything.

She had discovered that Victor was involved in illegal business.

She found documents proving he was secretly moving money through fake companies.

But worse…

She discovered someone inside the Rossi family was helping him.

Someone she trusted.

When she threatened to expose them, she was kidnapped.

“She wasn’t supposed to survive,” Maria whispered.

Leo’s face darkened.

“Who did this?”

Maria looked afraid.

“Leo…”

“Who?”

She looked toward the window.

Then whispered:

“Your uncle.”

Silence.

Leo stared.

“My uncle?”

“Yes.”

“Your father’s brother.”

“Anthony.”

Leo stood.

Anthony Rossi.

The man who helped raise him.

The man who always supported him.

The man who acted like family.

“He knew?”

Maria nodded.

“He knew everything.”

Before Leo could ask another question, the lights suddenly went out.

Clare immediately felt something was wrong.

“Leo…”

A window shattered.

Everyone dropped.

Daniel pulled Leo down.

Someone was outside.

Someone had followed them.

Maria grabbed Leo’s hand.

“Run.”

Leo looked at her.

“Mom?”

Her face was filled with fear.

“Because they know I’m alive.”

A second later, the front door exploded open.

And a familiar voice entered.

“You really should have listened to your father.”

Leo looked up.

May you like

Standing in the doorway…

Was Anthony Rossi.
