Chapter 12 - The Person Behind Everything

Leo returned to the Rossi estate with one mission.
Find Mrs. Gable.
Find the documents.
End the lies.
But when he entered the mansion, something felt wrong.
The place where he once felt powerful now felt like a trap.
Every hallway carried memories.
Every room carried secrets.
Clare walked beside him.
“You okay?”
Leo looked around.
“No.”
She was surprised by his honesty.
“I spent my entire life believing this house was my home.”
He paused.
“Now I realize it was where everyone hid things from me.”
Clare looked at him.
“Then maybe it’s time you stop protecting the house.”
“What do you mean?”
“Protect the people.”
Leo looked at her.
And for a moment, he remembered why she was different.
She never cared about his money.
She cared about the truth.
Daniel discovered a hidden passage beneath the library.
The same library where Clare first sang the song.
The same room where everything began.
Inside was an old vault.
No money.
No jewelry.
Only documents.
Leo opened the first file.
His grandfather’s handwriting.
The inheritance agreement.
The real one.
But underneath it was another document.
A confession.
Leo began reading.
“My greatest mistake was trusting the wrong person.”
His face changed.
“What?”
Clare looked at him.
“What does it say?”
Leo continued.
“The person who betrayed this family was not Victor.”
“Not Anthony.”
“It was someone who stood beside me for decades.”
Daniel looked confused.
“Who?”
Leo turned the page.
Then froze.
Because the name written there belonged to someone they all knew.
Someone who had been helping them.
Someone who had been pretending to search for the truth.
Leo whispered:
“No…”
Clare stepped closer.
“Who?”
Leo looked up.
His eyes filled with disbelief.
“It was Daniel.”
The room went silent.
Daniel immediately shook his head.
“That’s impossible.”
Leo held up the document.
“Your grandfather named you.”
“You were the one who helped destroy this family.”
Daniel looked terrified.
Then angry.
“You don’t understand.”
Leo stepped back.
“Explain.”
Daniel laughed.
A different laugh.
Not the loyal investigator.
Not the trusted friend.
The real Daniel.
“The funny thing is…”
“I spent years protecting you.”
“And you still think I’m the enemy.”
Clare looked at him.
“What are you saying?”
Daniel slowly reached into his jacket.
Everyone froze.
“I’m saying…”
“I’m the only person who knows the complete truth.”
Leo stared.
“Then tell me.”
Daniel smiled.
“Your mother didn’t disappear because Victor wanted power.”
“She disappeared because she discovered something even worse.”
“What?”
Daniel looked directly at Leo.
“She discovered that you were never supposed to become the head of the Rossi family.”
Leo felt cold.
“What does that mean?”
Daniel stepped closer.
“It means…”
“Your entire identity was built on a lie.”
And before Leo could respond…
The lights went out.
A gunshot echoed through the mansion.
And when the lights returned…
Daniel was gone.

The inheritance documents were missing.
And Clare was lying on the floor unconscious.
