The phone rang once.
Twice.
Three times.
Victor stared at Lena’s hand.
“Who are you calling?”
Lena didn’t answer.
She simply waited.
Then a voice came through the speaker.
“Lena?”
Everyone in the room heard it.
Victor’s face turned pale.
Because he recognized that voice.
It belonged to the one person he had spent years avoiding.
Lena’s older brother.
Adrian Cross.
The billionaire attorney who had built an empire defending people who had been betrayed.
Victor immediately stepped forward.
“Turn that off.”
Richard moved between them.
“No.”
Victor looked at him.
“You don’t understand what’s happening.”
Richard shook his head.
“We understand more than you think.”
Lena looked at the phone.
“Adrian, I need you here.”
A pause followed.
Then Adrian asked one question.
“Did he hurt you?”
Lena closed her eyes.
A single tear fell.
“Yes.”
The silence afterward felt heavier than any argument.
