Chapter 8 - THE DAUGHTER WHO WAS ERASED

The mansion was no longer a home.
It was a battlefield.
Gabriel walked through the halls with Elena beside him while security searched every room.
But he already knew.
They were not looking for an intruder.
They were looking for someone who knew every corner of the Whitmore Estate.
Someone who belonged there.
Evelyn Whitmore.
The forgotten daughter.
The name nobody was allowed to mention.
“Why didn’t I know about her?”
Gabriel asked Margaret.
The old woman looked exhausted.
“Because your grandfather wanted everyone to forget.”
“Why?”
Margaret hesitated.
“Because Evelyn was dangerous.”
Elena looked at her.
“Dangerous?”
Margaret nodded.
“She believed the family deserved to burn.”
Gabriel frowned.
“That doesn’t make sense.”
Margaret looked at him.
“Your family destroyed her life too.”
The words shocked everyone.
“What are you saying?”
Margaret took a deep breath.
“Before Elena, there was Evelyn.”
She explained.
Years ago, Evelyn was the oldest child of the Whitmore family.
She was supposed to inherit everything.
But her father believed she was too rebellious.
Too independent.
So he removed her from the family records.
He created a new future.
One where Richard inherited the company.
One where Elena became the next heir.
One where Evelyn became a ghost.
Gabriel stared at the floor.
“So all these years…”
“She believed everyone stole her life.”
A voice interrupted them.
“Because they did.”
Everyone turned.
Evelyn stood at the top of the staircase.
No fear.
No hesitation.
Just anger.
She slowly walked down.
Gabriel stepped in front of Elena.
“You threatened my family.”
Evelyn smiled.
“Your family threatened mine first.”
Elena looked at her.
“Evelyn…”
The woman stopped.
Hearing her name from Elena seemed to hurt.
“You remember.”
“Yes.”
A painful silence passed.
“We were friends.”
Evelyn laughed.
“Friends?”
Her eyes became cold.
“You were the person they chose instead of me.”
Elena shook her head.
“I never asked for that.”
“No.”
Evelyn stepped closer.
“But you accepted it.”
Gabriel interrupted.
“Stop blaming her for something she didn’t do.”
Evelyn looked at him.
“You sound just like your mother.”
“And you sound like someone who destroyed innocent people because you were hurt.”
That sentence hit her.
For a moment, Evelyn looked human.
Then the anger returned.
“You have no idea what I lost.”
Gabriel answered:
“Neither did my mother.”
Silence.
Then Evelyn opened the folder.
“I have proof.”
Everyone watched as she removed old documents.
“The accident.”
She placed them on the table.
“The forged signatures.”
Another document.
“The hidden accounts.”
Another.
Then the final paper.
Richard’s name.
Gabriel looked at his father.
“Dad…”
Richard closed his eyes.
Evelyn smiled.
“Now you understand.”
Gabriel picked up the document.
His hands shook.
Because the signature was real.
His father had approved the transfer.
Not forced.
Not threatened.
Approved.
He looked at Richard.
“Tell me this isn’t true.”
Richard said nothing.
And Gabriel realized something worse than betrayal.
May you like
His father had not only hidden the truth.
He had helped write it.
