Chapter 3 - THE WOMAN WHO DISAPPEARED TWICE

Gabriel had never been afraid of losing anything.

Money.

Power.

Status.

None of it mattered.

But losing his mother again?

That was something he couldn’t survive.

“Elena!”

His voice echoed through the mansion.

No answer.

The security team searched every room.

The gardens.

The hallways.

The basement.

Nothing.

“She couldn’t have disappeared,” Gabriel said.

Richard remained silent.

That silence made Gabriel furious.

“You know something.”

Richard looked at him.

“Gabriel…”

“No.”

He stepped closer.

“You lied to me for fifteen years.”

His voice cracked.

“You don’t get to protect me anymore.”

Before Richard could answer, Margaret appeared holding something in her hand.

“A letter.”

Gabriel turned.

“What letter?”

Margaret looked at Elena’s empty chair.

“She left this behind.”

Gabriel grabbed it.

The envelope was old.

Yellowed.

And his name was written on the front.

His hands shook.

Because he recognized the handwriting.

His mother’s handwriting.

He opened it.

My dearest Gabriel,

If you are reading this, it means the truth has finally found you.

I am sorry I was not there.

I am sorry you believed I left you.

I never abandoned you.

Someone forced me away.

Someone inside this family.

Gabriel stopped reading.

His heart pounded.

He continued.

I discovered that someone was changing the inheritance records. When I tried to expose them, they threatened you.

I had one choice.

Disappear.

Or watch my son become their next victim.

Gabriel’s eyes filled with tears.

“She protected me…”

Margaret nodded.

“Yes.”

Then Gabriel reached the final line.

And everything changed.

The last sentence said:

The person who destroyed my life is still living inside Whitmore Mansion.

Gabriel slowly lowered the letter.

Everyone looked at each other.

Because that meant one thing.

The enemy was not outside.

It was one of them.

Valeria suddenly spoke.

“This is ridiculous.”

Everyone turned.

She forced a laugh.

“You’re really going to believe a letter from a woman who disappeared?”

Gabriel looked at her.

A dangerous silence filled the room.

“Be careful.”

Valeria’s expression hardened.

“I’m just saying the truth.”

“No.”

Gabriel stepped closer.

“You’re protecting someone.”

Valeria’s face changed.

Only for a second.

But Gabriel noticed.

And so did Margaret.

Then the security alarm suddenly activated.

A message appeared on the mansion screen.

UNKNOWN PERSON DETECTED IN PRIVATE WING.

Everyone froze.

Gabriel grabbed the nearest security phone.

“Where?”

The guard answered:

“Your mother’s old bedroom.”

Gabriel ran.

The room had been locked for fifteen years.

Nobody entered.

Nobody touched anything.

But tonight…

The door was open.

Inside, everything was covered with dust.

Except one thing.

A fresh photograph sitting on the table.

Gabriel picked it up.

His blood turned cold.

It was a picture of Elena.

Taken yesterday.

Someone had been watching her.

For years.

Then he saw writing on the back.

A message.

Three words.

SHE REMEMBERS EVERYTHING.

Gabriel slowly looked up.

Because behind him…

Someone whispered:

“You should have let the past stay buried.”

He turned.

And the person standing in the doorway made his entire world collapse.

It was someone he trusted.

Someone who had been beside him his entire life.

His childhood protector.

His father’s closest friend.

May you like

The person who knew every secret in the Whitmore family.

And he was holding a gun.
