Chapter 11 - THE TRUTH VICTORIA COULDN’T HIDE

August stared at Victoria.

The woman standing in front of him looked nothing like the person he married.

No fear.

No guilt.

Only confidence.

“You.”

Victoria smiled.

“Did you really think I would let you find the truth that easily?”

Caroline stepped closer to her father.

“Dad, don’t listen to her.”

Victoria laughed.

“Still protecting him?”

Caroline’s expression hardened.

“After everything you did?”

August looked between them.

“What happened?”

Victoria slowly walked around the room.

“Eight years ago, Caroline discovered things she shouldn’t have.”

“Money?” August asked.

Victoria smiled.

“More than money.”

She stopped.

“Power.”

August felt sick.

“You destroyed your own family for power?”

Victoria shrugged.

“I protected what I built.”

Caroline shook her head.

“You protected yourself.”

Victoria’s face changed.

“You were always so dramatic.”

August stepped forward.

“You faked her death.”

Silence.

Victoria looked at him.

Then smiled.

“Yes.”

The answer was so calm it almost felt unreal.

August felt his entire body go cold.

“You admit it?”

“Why not?”

Victoria looked around.

“For eight years, everyone believed my story.”

She smiled.

“You did too.”

August’s anger exploded.

“You let me bury my daughter!”

Victoria didn’t flinch.

“You buried what I told you to bury.”

The words hit harder than anything else.

Caroline looked at her father.

“Dad, I tried to contact you.”

August looked at her.

“I know.”

“I sent messages.”

“I know.”

“I begged people around you to help me.”

His face changed.

“What people?”

Caroline looked at Victoria.

“Everyone who worked for you.”

August understood.

Victoria didn’t just hide the truth.

She controlled access to him.

She controlled the information.

She controlled his entire world.

Victoria stepped closer.

“But there is one thing you still don’t know.”

August stared at her.

“What?”

She smiled.

“Caroline wasn’t the only person I had to remove.”

August’s heart stopped.

“What does that mean?”

Victoria looked toward the door.

A man walked inside.

Someone August recognized.

His former business partner.

Richard Hale.

The man who had helped him build Caldwell Holdings.

The man he trusted for twenty years.

August’s face turned pale.

“Richard?”

Richard smiled.

“Hello, old friend.”

Caroline whispered:

“He was behind the company theft.”

August looked at Richard.

“You worked with Victoria?”

Richard laughed.

“We worked together.”

The truth finally became clear.

The betrayal wasn’t one person.

It was an entire plan.

Victoria stepped forward.

“Your daughter found us.”

Richard continued.

“And she was going to expose everything.”

August looked at Caroline.

“Why didn’t you run?”

Caroline’s eyes filled with tears.

“Because I thought I could still save you.”

The room went silent.

Then Richard pulled out his phone.

“Unfortunately, this reunion ends now.”

He showed them the screen.

A live video.

Elsie.

At the Caldwell mansion.

With someone standing behind her.

May you like

August’s blood ran cold.
