Chapter 6 - THE WOMAN WHO KNEW EVERY SECRET
When the lights returned, the tablet was gone.
Nobody moved.
Nobody breathed.
Alessio’s security team searched the room immediately.
But whoever took it was already gone.
Impossible.
The dining room had only one entrance.
Ten guards were standing outside.
Yet someone had walked in and stolen the evidence.
That meant one thing.
The enemy wasn’t hiding outside the walls.
They were controlling what happened inside them.
Alessio walked upstairs quickly.
I followed.
“You saw the face.”
He stopped.
“Yes.”
“Who was it?”
His jaw tightened.
“I don’t know.”
I knew he was lying.
“You do.”
He turned.
The anger in his eyes was sharp.
“You don’t understand this world.”
“No.”
I looked at him.
“But I understand a mother’s fear.”
That stopped him.
Because Leo’s mother was gone.
And everyone knew Alessio had never recovered.
He looked away.
“The person in the video…”
He paused.
“Was someone my wife trusted.”
I felt a chill.
“Someone close to Leo.”
“Yes.”
Before I could ask more, a scream came from upstairs.
We ran.
The nursery door was open.
The baby monitor was on the floor.
And Leo’s crib was empty.
For one terrible second…
nobody moved.
Then Alessio shouted:
“LOCK THE HOUSE!”
His voice shook the mansion.
Guards ran in every direction.
I searched the room.
The blanket was gone.
The window was open.
And on the floor beside the crib…
was a note.
I picked it up.
Three words were written across it.
HE WAS NEVER SAFE.
Alessio read it.
His face turned cold.
Then his phone rang.
Unknown number.
He answered.
A distorted voice spoke.
“You protected him once.”
A pause.
“But can you do it again?”
Alessio’s grip tightened.
“Who are you?”
The voice laughed softly.
Then whispered:
“The nanny knows the truth.”
The call ended.
Everyone looked at me.
And suddenly…
May you like
I realized the person behind all of this wasn’t only trying to destroy Alessio Romano.
They were trying to make him believe I was part of it.
