Chapter 14 - THE PERSON WHO STOLE THE TRUTH

The name on the document felt impossible.
Alessio read it again.
Then again.
Like his mind refused to accept it.
“No.”
His voice cracked.
“That can’t be true.”
I looked at the paper.
“What does it say?”
He didn’t answer.
Dominic stepped forward.
Then he saw the name.
His face went pale.
“Boss…”
Alessio closed the folder.
“Everyone leaves.”
Nobody moved.
“I said leave.”
The guards disappeared.
Only Alessio, Dominic, Sofia, Leo, and I remained.
Finally, Alessio looked at me.
“The person behind everything…”
He stopped.
“Was my father.”
The room went silent.
His father.
The man who built the Romano empire.
The man who taught him loyalty.
The man who taught him never to trust anyone.
I understood then.
This wasn’t just a family betrayal.
It was a war that started before Leo was even born.
Sofia spoke quietly.
“Your father believed the Romano bloodline belonged to him.”
Alessio looked furious.
“He’s been dead for years.”
“Yes.”
Sofia nodded.
“But his plans continued.”
She explained everything.
The hidden cameras.
The fake evidence.
The manipulated birth records.
The attempt to make Alessio believe I was responsible.
It was all part of one plan.
Someone wanted Alessio isolated.
Angry.
Distracted.
Because a weak man was easier to control.
Then Sofia looked at me.
“There is something else.”
I felt my heart tighten.
“What?”
She reached into the folder.
And pulled out a small necklace.
A blue bead necklace.
My breath stopped.
I knew it.
I had seen it before.
The night of the fire.
“The necklace belonged to your wife.”
Sofia looked at Alessio.
“But she gave it to the person who saved her son.”
Everyone looked at me.
My hands started shaking.
“No.”
Sofia nodded.
“Yes.”
I remembered.
The fire.
The smoke.
The woman placing a baby into my arms.
The words she whispered.
“Please.”
“Protect him.”
I had spent years thinking it was a nightmare.
It wasn’t.
It was Leo.
I looked at Alessio.
“I saved him before.”
His expression changed completely.
“You?”
I nodded.
“The night your wife died…”
My voice broke.
“I was there.”
Alessio stepped back.
All the anger.
All the suspicion.
Everything disappeared.
Because the truth was finally standing in front of him.
Before anyone could speak, an explosion shook the chapel.
The windows shattered.
Smoke filled the room.
Sofia screamed.
“They found us!”
Alessio grabbed Leo.
Dominic pulled his weapon.
I covered my face.
Through the smoke, a figure entered.
Slowly.
Calmly.
Like he owned the place.
A man everyone thought was dead.
Alessio raised his gun.
The man smiled.
“Hello, brother.”
Alessio froze.
May you like
Because the nightmare had finally returned.
His younger brother was alive.
