Chapter 2 - The Man Who Never Left

The police arrived twenty minutes later.

The stranger was taken away.

But Daniel’s questions only grew bigger.

The hidden compartment beneath the sofa was not something that could be built overnight.

Someone had designed it.

Someone had planned it.

Someone had helped him.

Daniel walked through his own house like a stranger.

Every room looked different.

Every corner felt suspicious.

He looked at Melissa.

“How long has this been happening?”

Melissa crossed her arms.

“You’re really going to believe a child over your wife?”

Daniel felt his anger rising.

“She found a man hiding under our couch.”

Melissa looked away.

That reaction hurt more than any confession.

Later that night, Emma quietly entered her father’s room.

She held an old stuffed rabbit.

“Daddy…”

Daniel looked at her.

“Why didn’t you tell me before?”

The little girl lowered her head.

“Because Mommy told me nobody would believe me.”

Daniel froze.

Then Emma whispered something that made his blood run cold.

“He sleeps in the house when you are gone.”
