Daniel received Vanessa's message eleven minutes later.
Don't call the police.
Give me the drive.
You get Elena back.
Daniel stared at the screen.
Thomas stood beside him.
“She knows.”
“Yes.”
“What are you going to do?”
Daniel typed a reply.
Where?
The answer came immediately.
Old Caldwell estate.
Midnight.
Alone.
Daniel looked at the clock.
9:17 p.m.
Thomas shook his head.
“You can't go alone.”
“I won't.”
“But she said—”
“I know what she said.”
Daniel called someone he hadn't spoken to in almost a year.
Detective Rachel Cole.
His father's former security consultant.
She answered on the second ring.
“Daniel?”
“I need your help.”
“With what?”
Daniel looked at the burning study.
“With proving my father's death wasn't what everyone thought.”
