The Lie He Was Never Supposed to Discover

The Lie He Was Never Supposed to Discover

He had been told the pregnant woman was gone.

He had been told the baby was dead.

Then he walked into his mansion—and found her on her knees, clutching her belly while another woman stood over her.

The crash of shattered porcelain echoed through the marble foyer.

A plate had just been hurled straight at the pregnant maid.

Food splattered across her face and uniform as the impact knocked her off balance.

She dropped hard to her knees.

Both hands immediately wrapped around her swollen belly.

Standing above her was an elegantly dressed woman in a pristine white suit, diamonds glittering at her throat and wrists.

There wasn't a trace of sympathy on her face.

Only disgust.

“What is this?”

She pointed at the ruined food scattered across the marble.

“Make another one!”

The maid's breathing turned shallow.

Tears streamed down her cheeks as she curled protectively around her unborn child.

Her hands trembled against her stomach.

“Please…”

Her voice barely came out.

“The baby…”

The woman in white simply crossed her arms.

Then the mansion's massive front doors swung open.

Afternoon sunlight flooded the foyer.

A man in an immaculate black suit stepped inside.

He took two steps.

Then stopped.

His eyes went first to the shattered plate.

Then to the food scattered across the floor.

Then to the pregnant woman kneeling in the middle of it.

His face changed.

The woman in white spun around.

Every trace of arrogance vanished.

Her skin went pale.

“No…”

She whispered the word before she could stop herself.

The man's eyes locked onto the maid's swollen belly.

For several seconds, he didn't move.

It was as though his mind refused to accept what his eyes were telling him.

The woman in white hurried toward him.

“Wait.”

Her voice shook.

“This isn't what it looks like.”

He ignored her.

Slowly, he crossed the marble floor.

One step.

Then another.

The maid looked up through her tears.

The moment their eyes met, something inside him seemed to break.

Shock became recognition.

Recognition became betrayal.

And betrayal hardened into a terrifyingly controlled anger.

The woman in white reached for his arm.

“Please, let me explain.”

He pulled away without even looking at her.

Then he stopped inches from her.

His voice dropped to almost a whisper.

“You told me she left.”

The woman froze.

His eyes shifted toward the pregnant maid.

Then back to her.

“You told me…”

His jaw tightened.

“…she lost the baby.”

Silence swallowed the mansion.

The maid remained on the floor, one trembling hand pressed protectively against her stomach.

The woman in white stared at him with her mouth slightly open.

For the first time, she had nothing to say.

Because the lie she had built everything around had just collapsed.

May you like

And judging by the look in his eyes—

this was only the beginning.
