Chapter 7 — My Father’s Final Gift

A year after leaving Arthur, I opened another letter from my father's attorney.
There was a final message.
Written before his death.
My hands trembled as I read it.
"My daughter, if you are reading this, it means someone tried to make you believe your kindness was weakness."
"Never let anyone convince you that love requires you to disappear."
"The person who truly loves you will protect your heart, not control it."
I held the letter against my chest.
For years, I thought losing my father meant losing my protection.
I was wrong.
