Chapter 2 — The Secret Hidden in My Father’s Will

The next morning, Victoria placed a thick folder on the table.
"I need you to read this carefully."
I opened it.
The first page was my father's will.
I had read it before.
But I never noticed the detail that changed everything.
Victoria pointed at a paragraph.
"Your father placed the house in a protected family trust."
I looked confused.
"What does that mean?"
"It means Arthur never owned this property."
My heart stopped.
The house where Arthur had lived for eight years.
The house where he had thrown me out.
The house where he acted like a king.
It was mine.
Legally.
Completely.
My father had created the trust before his death.
The condition was simple.
The property belonged only to his daughter.
Any spouse could live there.
But they could never claim ownership.
Arthur had spent years saying:
"This is our house."
But the truth was:
He was only a guest.
Victoria continued.
"And there's more."
She opened another file.
"Your father also required financial reviews because he suspected someone might try to manipulate your inheritance."
I looked at her.
"My father knew?"
"He knew you were trusting. He wanted to protect you."
For the first time since my father died...
I cried.
Not because I was hurt.
Because I finally understood.
My father had protected me even after he was gone.
That evening, Arthur received a letter.
A legal notice.
The words were simple.
Vacate the property within thirty days.
His face turned pale.
"This is impossible."
Brooke grabbed the papers.
"You're telling me she owns the house?"
Arthur crushed the letter in his hand.
"No."
His voice became cold.
"She thinks she does."
Then he smiled.
May you like
A dangerous smile.
"She's forgotten who she's dealing with."
