Chapter 3 — The Evidence He Never Expected

Arthur's next move came quickly.

He filed for divorce.

But he didn't file because he wanted freedom.

He filed because he believed he could win.

His lawyer claimed:

  • The inheritance had benefited the marriage.

  • The house was a shared residence.

  • My refusal to provide money showed financial abuse.

When Victoria read the documents, she laughed.

Actually laughed.

"They're desperate."

"Why?"

"Because desperate people make mistakes."

And Arthur had made many.

The forensic accountant discovered everything.

The transfers.

The hidden accounts.

The money sent to Brooke.

The fake business expenses.

Over six months, Arthur had moved nearly $120,000 from accounts connected to our household.

Money he claimed was for "family emergencies."

Money that actually funded Brooke's salon.

Then came the biggest discovery.

The coffee incident wasn't his first act of aggression.

It was simply the first one documented.

Victoria found old messages.

Threats.

Manipulation.

A recording from a smart home device where Arthur admitted:

"She won't leave. She has nowhere else to go."

I listened to those words.

And something inside me broke.

May you like

Not my heart.

My illusion.
