Lawrence took the letter anyway.
His hands were steady.
Until he read the first sentence.
"Lawrence, if you are reading this, then I failed to teach you the most important lesson."
His expression changed.
The lobby disappeared.
The employees disappeared.
Only his father's handwriting remained.
"You became powerful, but you forgot how to be kind."
Lawrence stopped reading.
Christopher looked away.
Nobody had ever spoken to Lawrence like that.
Not even his father.
The letter continued.
"Money can build buildings. It cannot build a family."
Lawrence looked at Irene.
"Why did he trust you?"
Irene answered quietly.
