Chapter 1 — The Child Who Stood Against A Billionaire
Lawrence Sterling had spent twenty years making people afraid of him.
Executives lowered their voices when he entered a room.
Employees stood straighter when he walked past.
Nobody questioned him.
Nobody challenged him.
Until a four-year-old boy wearing a faded red shirt looked up at him and said:
"Don't talk to my mom like that."
The words were small.
But they hit harder than any lawsuit Lawrence Sterling had ever faced.
The entire lobby of Sterling Capital went silent.
Irene Owens immediately grabbed her son's hand.
"Billy..."
Her voice was full of fear.
Not because of Lawrence.
Because she knew what powerful men did when someone embarrassed them.
They destroyed the person who made them look weak.
But Billy didn't move.
He looked at Lawrence with his tiny shoulders straight.
"My mom works harder than anyone here."
Lawrence stared down at him.
A billionaire CEO.
A child who still needed help tying his shoes.
Yet somehow...
Lawrence was the one who looked uncomfortable.
"Take him away," Lawrence said coldly.
Irene lowered her head.
"Come on, Billy."
But before she pushed the cleaning cart away, Lawrence noticed something.
A small corner of a blue folder sticking out from beneath the towels.
His father's name flashed through his mind.
Henry Sterling.
The one person in the world Lawrence could never ignore.
"Wait."
Irene stopped.
Slowly, she turned.
Lawrence pointed at the cart.
"What is inside that folder?"
For the first time that morning...
May you like
Irene looked afraid.
And Lawrence noticed.
