Chapter 14 - The Dinner Where Every Lie Collapsed

Diego’s lawyers created a plan.

They announced a private reconciliation dinner between the Villaseñor and Robles families.

The news was leaked deliberately.

Armando believed Diego was desperate to recover his company.

He agreed to attend from custody through a court-approved legal meeting.

Arturo’s lawyer also requested negotiations.

Paulina refused at first.

Then she learned Diego might withdraw his testimony in exchange for control of the company.

Her pride brought her to the table.

The dinner took place inside a secured hotel ballroom.

No reporters were allowed inside.

Hidden cameras recorded everything.

Diego sat at one end of the table.

Marisol sat beside him.

Paulina looked at her with disgust.

“She does not belong here.”

Diego answered calmly.

“She belongs anywhere my daughter’s mother chooses to sit.”

Armando placed a contract on the table.

“You will transfer controlling shares to Robles Capital.”

“You will publicly state that the kidnapping was a misunderstanding.”

“You will deny Paulina knew about the child.”

“And Marisol will leave Mexico City.”

Marisol looked at him.

“You still believe you can order me to disappear.”

Armando smiled.

“People like you disappear every day.”

Diego’s hand tightened beneath the table.

Marisol remained calm.

“And Valentina?”

“She will receive financial support.”

“She will never use the Villaseñor name.”

Paulina leaned back.

“That is the only condition I refuse to change.”

Diego looked at her.

“Why?”

“You already know why.”

“I want to hear you say it.”

Paulina smiled.

“Because she was never supposed to exist.”

Diego remained silent.

Paulina continued.

“I destroyed the letters.”

“I paid Tomás to block the calls.”

“I told Marisol you had rejected her.”

“I convinced your father to keep the scandal quiet.”

“And it almost worked.”

Marisol’s voice was soft.

“You kidnapped a child because she had his eyes.”

“I kidnapped her because Diego was too weak to choose correctly.”

Diego looked down.

“And the doctor?”

Paulina hesitated.

Armando spoke sharply.

“Do not answer.”

Paulina ignored him.

“I only replaced his medication.”

“I needed time to question the DNA result.”

“The dose was not supposed to kill him.”

Diego looked at Armando.

“The warehouse?”

Armando remained silent.

Arturo shifted nervously.

Paulina laughed.

“My father planned the warehouse.”

“Arturo created the documents.”

“I was the only person willing to do what was necessary.”

Armando slammed his hand on the table.

“Enough!”

The ballroom doors opened.

Detective Vargas entered with federal financial investigators.

Paulina’s face changed.

Diego removed the microphone hidden beneath his collar.

“Thank you.”

“You just confirmed every charge.”

Armando stood.

“You promised negotiation.”

“I promised a table.”

“I never promised mercy.”

Officers surrounded them.

Arturo immediately pointed at Armando.

“He ordered everything.”

Armando struck him across the face.

Paulina screamed at both men.

Within seconds, the united Robles family turned against itself.

Each tried to save themselves by exposing the others.

Arturo revealed the account passwords.

Armando revealed where Tomás had been hiding.

Paulina admitted paying the clinic director.

Every confession was recorded.

As officers led Paulina away, she stopped in front of Marisol.

“You think he loves you?”

Marisol said nothing.

“He feels guilty.”

“When the guilt disappears, so will you.”

Diego stood beside Marisol.

“I do not need guilt to know what you stole from me.”

Paulina looked at him.

“You would have married me.”

“Yes.”

The answer surprised her.

Diego continued.

“And I would have spent the rest of my life married to someone incapable of loving anything she could not control.”

Paulina’s eyes filled with tears.

For once, the tears were real.

But they came too late.

The police led her away.

Diego and Marisol remained alone in the ballroom.

The empire had been saved.

The truth had been exposed.

But one question still stood between them.

“What happens now?” Marisol asked.

Diego looked at her.

“Now I learn how to be Valentina’s father.”

“And us?”

He stepped closer.

“We do not build anything on guilt.”

May you like

“We start with the truth.”

“And we see whether the truth is enough.”
