Chapter 3 — The Daughter They Tried to Erase

The next morning, the entire country knew.
News channels replayed the moment Admiral Rueda saluted me.
The woman they called unstable.
The woman they called a failure.
Was now recognized as the captain who saved twenty-three sailors.
But fame did not erase pain.
I returned to my old family home.
The same house where my name had been removed from photographs.
Where my room had been turned into storage.
Where my mother had pretended I never existed.
She found me standing there.
“Eva…”
Her voice broke.
For years, I waited to hear regret.
But regret came too late.
“You knew I was alive.”
Her tears fell.
“I was afraid.”
I turned around.
“Afraid of what?”
She couldn't answer.
Because the truth was simple.
She was afraid of losing the life my father built.
She chose comfort over her daughter.
Then she handed me a small wooden box.
“I kept this.”
Inside was my old naval medal.
The one they told the world I lost.
My mother whispered:
“Your father ordered me to hide it.”
I looked at the medal.
Then at her.
“Why give it back now?”
May you like
Her answer destroyed me.
“Because I finally realized I was protecting the wrong person.”
