Chapter 1 — The File That Destroyed My Father’s Legacy

The ballroom remained frozen after Admiral Tomás Rueda placed the black folder into my hands.
Nobody dared to speak.
Not because they respected me.
But because they feared what was inside.
For five years, my family had controlled the story.
They told everyone I abandoned my military career.
They told the navy I suffered from emotional instability after a failed mission.
They told society I was a shameful daughter who disappeared because she couldn't handle responsibility.
And now, in front of the same people who believed their lies…
The truth was standing alive.
I opened the folder.
The first page was a military report.
Operation Tempest — Naval Rescue Mission.
My fingers tightened.
The next page contained photographs of the burning vessel.
The ship everyone believed had exploded with no survivors.
My ship.
The Almirante Reyes.
A collective gasp moved through the room.
Senator Valdés stepped closer.
“Is that… the explosion from five years ago?”
Admiral Rueda nodded.
“Yes.”
His eyes turned toward my father.
“And this report proves that the explosion was not an accident.”
The color disappeared from Arturo Soler’s face.
My sister Inés shook her head.
“That’s impossible.”
She looked at me.
“You expect us to believe you were some kind of hero?”
I closed the folder.
“No.”
I looked directly at her.
“I expect you to believe the evidence.”
Then Admiral Rueda pressed a button on the remote.
The massive screen behind the stage changed.
Security footage appeared.
The room went silent.
Because the video showed something nobody expected.
A man entering the restricted naval area the night before the explosion.
A man wearing an identification badge.
A man everyone in the room recognized.
May you like
My brother.
Carlos Soler.
