Chapter 8 - THE TRAITOR IN THE RAIN

Marcus fired through the broken window.

The shooter disappeared behind a rooftop wall.

Jonathan Crane ran toward a waiting vehicle.

Victor’s men rushed downstairs.

By the time they reached the street, the car was gone.

One guard returned holding a dropped phone.

Marcus checked the last call.

It had been made to Serena.

Victor looked at the screen.

“Bring her to me.”

Twenty minutes later, Serena was escorted into the safe apartment.

She saw the shattered glass.

She saw Lily alive.

Her disappointment lasted less than a second.

Victor placed the phone on the table.

“Crane called you.”

Serena looked at the number.

“I speak to our attorney every day.”

“He tried to kill Lily.”

“That is ridiculous.”

Victor stepped closer.

“He forged my signature.”

“He created documents giving you control of Ethan’s trust.”

Serena’s voice trembled.

“Victor, someone is manipulating you.”

“Yes.”

His gaze did not leave her.

“Someone is.”

She reached for him.

He moved away.

Serena’s sadness turned to anger.

“You are choosing her over me.”

“This is not about Lily.”

“It has always been about Lily.”

Serena pointed at the nanny.

“She entered your house using a false identity.”

“She lied to you for six months.”

“She brought danger near Ethan.”

Lily stood.

“I brought danger into the light.”

Serena smiled coldly.

“You have no idea what you brought.”

Isabella watched the two women.

“You know each other.”

Lily’s face tightened.

Serena answered first.

“Her father destroyed my family’s reputation.”

“My father exposed your family’s crimes.”

“Your father was a thief.”

“My father was murdered.”

Victor looked at Serena.

“Did your family kill him?”

Serena’s smile disappeared.

Before she could answer, Marcus received a call.

His expression became grave.

“We found Rosa.”

“Where?”

“An abandoned warehouse near the river.”

“Is she alive?”

“Yes.”

“But she is badly injured and barely conscious.”

Victor turned toward the door.

Serena spoke quickly.

“She will lie.”

Victor stopped.

“How do you know what she will say?”

Serena realized her mistake.

Nobody moved.

Victor looked at Marcus.

“Take Serena downstairs.”

“Keep her under guard.”

Serena’s voice rose.

“You cannot imprison me.”

Victor walked toward her.

“When my son is safe, you may discuss your rights with a lawyer.”

Serena leaned close enough that only he could hear.

“You think this ends with me?”

“It does not.”

“Your enemy is already inside your family.”

Victor watched her being taken away.

Then Isabella’s phone rang.

She answered.

Her face went pale.

“Victor.”

May you like

“It is the hospital.”

“Ethan is gone.”
