Chapter 3 - THE MISSING CAMERA

Victor returned to Blackwood Mansion before sunrise.

Lily remained at the hospital with Ethan.

Serena rode in a separate car.

When Victor entered the nursery, his security chief, Marcus Hale, was waiting beside an empty wall mount.

“The camera was removed twenty minutes after we left.”

“Who entered the room?”

“A housekeeper named Rosa.”

Serena immediately spoke.

“Rosa has always hated me.”

Victor ignored her.

“Where is she?”

Marcus looked uncomfortable.

“She is missing.”

Victor’s eyes narrowed.

“Missing?”

“Her car is gone.”

“So are several clothes from her room.”

Serena folded her arms.

“That proves it.”

“She hurt Ethan.”

“She removed the camera and ran.”

Victor looked at her.

“You said Ethan fell.”

Serena paused.

“I thought he did.”

“Now it is obvious Rosa caused it.”

Marcus placed a tablet on the table.

“We checked the exterior cameras.”

“Rosa’s car left through the service gate.”

“But someone opened that gate remotely.”

Victor studied the record.

The access code belonged to Serena.

Serena’s voice became sharp.

“My code was stolen.”

Marcus continued.

“There is something else.”

He played footage from the rear corridor.

Rosa appeared carrying a small travel bag.

A man followed her.

His face was hidden by a baseball cap.

He placed his hand against her back and guided her toward the exit.

“She may not have left willingly,” Marcus said.

Serena scoffed.

“That proves nothing.”

Victor looked at Marcus.

“Find her.”

“Alive.”

Marcus nodded.

Serena stepped closer to Victor.

“You cannot seriously believe the nanny.”

Victor turned.

“I believe my son’s doctor.”

“And I believe someone removed evidence from my house.”

Serena’s expression softened.

She reached for his hand.

“Victor, we are supposed to be married in twelve days.”

He pulled his hand away.

“The wedding is postponed.”

Serena stared at him.

“You cannot do that.”

“I just did.”

Her eyes filled with carefully controlled tears.

“Because of a servant?”

“Because my child was injured.”

Victor left the room.

Serena remained behind.

Her sadness disappeared the moment the door closed.

She pulled out a second phone.

A message was already waiting.

Rosa is secured.

Serena typed back.

Then make sure she never talks.

Before she could send it, a voice came from behind her.

“You should be careful with secret phones.”

Serena spun around.

May you like

Victor’s younger sister, Isabella, stood in the doorway.

And she had seen everything.
