Chapter 4 - THE WOMAN WHO SAW TOO MUCH

Isabella Blackwood leaned against the nursery door.
Unlike Victor, she did not hide her anger behind silence.
She smiled.
It was not a friendly smile.
“Who are you texting?”
Serena slipped the phone behind her back.
“My wedding planner.”
“At five in the morning?”
“The wedding was just postponed.”
“I need to handle the guests.”
Isabella held out her hand.
“Give me the phone.”
Serena laughed.
“You do not give me orders.”
“You are standing in my brother’s house.”
“You are accused of hurting his child.”
“And a witness disappeared using your security code.”
Isabella’s smile faded.
“I think I can give you one order.”
Serena walked past her.
Isabella grabbed her wrist.
The second phone fell onto the carpet.
Both women looked down.
Serena moved first.
She shoved Isabella into the dresser and reached for the device.
Isabella recovered and stepped on it.
“Marcus!”
Serena grabbed a crystal lamp.
Before she could raise it, two guards rushed into the room.
Isabella pointed at the phone.
“Take it.”
Serena quickly changed her expression.
“She attacked me.”
Isabella laughed.
“Try a new story.”
“That one is becoming boring.”
Marcus picked up the device.
It required a six-digit code.
Serena folded her arms.
“It is not mine.”
Isabella looked at Victor’s security chief.
“Then she will not mind if you open it.”
Marcus studied Serena.
“We will need time.”
“Take all the time you need,” Isabella said.
Serena turned toward the door.
One guard blocked her path.
Victor entered the nursery.
“What happened?”
Isabella pointed to the phone.
“She was sending messages.”
“Then she tried to destroy it.”
Serena faced Victor.
“Your sister has always wanted to break us apart.”
Isabella stepped forward.
“I do not care who you marry.”
“I care who stands near my nephew.”
Victor looked at Marcus.
“Open the phone.”
Marcus nodded.
Serena’s breathing changed.
Only slightly.
But Isabella noticed.
Then Victor’s regular phone rang.
Dr. Holloway was on the line.
Victor answered immediately.
“What is it?”
The doctor’s voice was low.
“We found something in Ethan’s bloodwork.”
Victor’s grip tightened around the phone.
“What?”
“A strong sedative.”
“The amount could not have entered his body by accident.”
Victor looked directly at Serena.
May you like
Dr. Holloway continued.
“Someone has been drugging your son.”
