Chapter 15 - THE FAMILY I CHOSE

The gunshot echoed through the estate.

For one second…

Everything stopped.

Then Adrian moved.

He pushed me behind him.

The bullet hit the wall.

Not us.

Victoria stood frozen.

Her weapon was still raised.

But she wasn’t aiming at me.

She was aiming at Marco.

Everyone stared.

Marco looked shocked.

“Victoria.”

Her eyes filled with tears.

“I spent my whole life wanting her gone.”

She looked at me.

“But I finally understood something.”

Her voice broke.

“She wasn’t the person who stole my life.”

Silence.

“She was just another child who was hurt by you.”

Marco’s expression changed.

“You ungrateful girl.”

Victoria laughed bitterly.

“No.”

She lowered the weapon.

“I’m finally free.”

Marco’s men moved.

Adrian’s guards reacted.

The estate exploded into chaos.

For years, the Viscari family had survived through fear.

But that night…

Fear ended.

Marco tried to escape.

But Elena stopped him.

“You took everything from us.”

He looked at her.

“You still love them.”

She shook her head.

“No.”

She looked at me.

“I love my children.”

For the first time…

I heard her say it.

My children.

Not one.

Not two.

All of us.

After Marco was arrested, the world changed.

The Viscari empire did not disappear.

But Adrian changed it.

No more unnecessary violence.

No more innocent people getting hurt.

He turned the organization into something different.

Something Elena had always wanted.

A family that protected.

Not destroyed.

Months passed.

My relationship with Elena was complicated.

Pain doesn’t disappear overnight.

Forgiveness doesn’t happen because someone says sorry.

But she tried.

Every day.

And I saw that.

Gabriel became the brother I never knew I needed.

Victoria disappeared for a while.

But she eventually returned.

Not as an enemy.

As someone trying to repair the damage she caused.

And Luca…

Luca remained Luca.

The little boy who started everything.

One evening, I stood outside Adrian’s house watching him play with Luca.

The most feared man in the city was sitting on the grass.

Laughing.

A sight nobody would have believed.

He looked up at me.

“You’re staring.”

I smiled.

“I’m still surprised.”

“By what?”

“That you’re actually human.”

He laughed softly.

“Careful.”

“Why?”

“People might hear you.”

I walked closer.

“And what will they do?”

He looked at me.

“They’ll never believe Adrian Viscari learned how to smile.”

I smiled back.

“Good.”

“Why?”

“Because some things are better kept as secrets.”

He looked at me for a long moment.

Then he said:

“Do you regret coming to Bellagio that night?”

I looked at Luca.

The baby who reached for me.

The family I found.

The truth I finally knew.

“No.”

I shook my head.

“I lost the life I thought I had.”

I looked at Adrian.

“But I found the one I was meant to have.”

Years later, people still told stories about Adrian Viscari.

They talked about the dragon.

The empire.

The power.

But they never talked about the most important thing.

They never talked about the night a mafia boss discovered that the strongest force in the world wasn’t fear.

It was love.

Because sometimes…

The person who changes your life isn’t the one you search for.

Sometimes they are the person who reaches for you first.

Just like Luca did.

The baby who knew the truth…

May you like

Before anyone else.

THE END
