Chapter 11 - THE SISTER WHO WANTED ME DEAD

The room was silent.
Nobody knew what to say.
Because Elena’s message had created more questions than answers.
A missing sister.
A hidden enemy.
A family destroyed from the inside.
I looked at Gabriel.
“You knew?”
He shook his head.
“No.”
“Then why did you say I was the only child?”
His expression became painful.
“Because that’s what we were told.”
I looked at Adrian.
“And you?”
He looked away.
“I never knew about another daughter.”
I believed him.
That was the strange part.
After everything…
I believed Adrian.
Maybe because he had every chance to lie.
But he kept giving me painful truths instead.
Clara walked toward the table.
“There is something else.”
I laughed quietly.
“Of course there is.”
My voice broke.
“Apparently my whole life is just one giant secret.”
Nobody smiled.
Because it was true.
Clara placed another file down.
“This was Elena’s final investigation.”
Adrian opened it.
His face changed.
“What?”
Gabriel looked over.
“What did she find?”
Adrian turned the pages.
Then slowly looked at me.
“She found the person who helped Marco.”
My stomach tightened.
“Who?”
He didn’t answer.
He didn’t need to.
Because the name was written clearly.
Victoria Viscari.
My half-sister.
The woman who had spent years hidden.
The woman who had helped destroy her own family.
The woman who wanted me gone.
Three hours later, Adrian’s mansion became a fortress.
Security doubled.
No one entered.
No one left.
But I couldn’t sleep.
I stood by the window watching the city lights.
My life had changed too fast.
A week ago, my biggest problem was paying rent.
Now I was the missing daughter of a mafia family.
A target.
A piece in a war I never asked for.
“You should be sleeping.”
I turned.
Adrian stood in the doorway.
“You should be too.”
He walked closer.
For once, he didn’t look like the feared mafia boss.
He looked tired.
Human.
“Are you afraid of me?”
The question surprised me.
“Why would you ask that?”
“Because everyone is.”
I looked at him.
“Am I?”
He was silent.
“No.”
The answer came naturally.
“You saved me.”
His eyes softened.
“I put you in danger.”
“You also protected me.”
A pause.
Then he said:
“Luca needs you.”
My heart tightened.
“Why?”
“I don’t know.”
He looked toward the nursery.
“But when he sees you, he stops being afraid.”
I looked down.
“Maybe he remembers something.”
Adrian became still.
“What?”
“Maybe Elena.”
The name hurt him.
I saw it.
But he didn’t run from the pain anymore.
Before either of us could speak…
The alarm sounded.
Loud.
Sharp.
Adrian immediately changed.
The coldness returned.
“What happened?”
A guard’s voice came through the radio.
“Boss…”
A pause.
“We found someone inside.”
Adrian grabbed his weapon.
“Where?”
“The nursery.”
My heart stopped.
“No.”
We ran.
The door was open.
Luca was crying.
And standing beside the crib…
Was a woman.
A beautiful woman.
Elegant.
Calm.
Holding a knife.
Adrian froze.
Because he knew her.
“Victoria.”
The woman smiled.
“Hello, brother.”
Then she looked at me.
And smiled wider.
“So this is the girl who stole my place.”
I stepped forward.
“You tried to kill me?”
Victoria laughed softly.
“No.”
She looked at Luca.
“I tried to fix a mistake.”
Adrian moved between us.
“Put the knife down.”
Victoria ignored him.
Her eyes stayed on me.
“You have no idea what Elena did.”
I frowned.
“What are you talking about?”
Victoria’s smile disappeared.
“She chose you.”
The room went silent.
“She chose you over me.”
My heart sank.
“You’re lying.”
Victoria stepped closer.
“No.”
Her voice became bitter.
“She abandoned me to save you.”
May you like
Then she whispered:
“And I have spent my entire life making sure you regret being alive.”
