CHAPTER 1: THE DOCUMENTS THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

The first thing Arthur Vance heard when he opened his front door was his own name being screamed like a warning.
“Arthur! You need to come here right now!”
The panic in Maria’s voice stopped him cold.
For twenty years, Arthur had built a reputation as a man who could handle anything. Business crises. Lawsuits. Betrayals from competitors. He had walked into hostile boardrooms and walked out victorious.
But nothing prepared him for the sight waiting inside his own home.
His wife, Elena, stood in the middle of the living room with a furious expression on her face.
Across from her was Maria, the nanny who had cared for Arthur’s young son, Benjamin, since the boy was three years old.
And between them sat a stack of legal documents spread across the coffee table.
Arthur slowly stepped forward.
“What on earth is happening in my house?”
Nobody answered immediately.
That silence scared him more than an argument would have.
Maria looked at him with trembling hands.
“Mr. Vance… please take a look at these legal documents.”
She pushed the papers toward him.
Arthur picked them up.
The moment his eyes moved across the first page, his expression changed.
“What is this?”
Elena immediately stepped forward.
“Arthur, darling, don’t listen to her. She is trying to manipulate you.”
Arthur looked up.
“Elena, what are you talking about?”
“She found some old paperwork and misunderstood everything. You know how emotional she gets.”
Maria’s eyes filled with disbelief.
“Misunderstood?”
She pointed at the documents.
“These papers show that Elena has been moving money from Benjamin’s inheritance trust account.”
The room went completely silent.
Arthur stared at Maria.
Then he looked at Elena.
“Tell me she’s wrong.”
Elena laughed nervously.
“Of course she’s wrong. Arthur, you’re really going to believe a nanny over your own wife?”
Maria lowered her voice.
“I’m not asking you to believe me, Mr. Vance. I’m asking you to look at the evidence.”
Arthur continued reading.
His jaw tightened.
The signatures.
The transfers.
The hidden withdrawals.
Every page felt heavier than the last.
“Elena…”
His voice was different now.
Colder.
“What are these transactions?”
Elena crossed her arms.
“That money belongs to our family business.”
Arthur looked up sharply.
“No.”
Elena froze.
Arthur placed the papers on the table.
“No, it does not.”
She stepped closer.
“You don’t understand. That trust fund was created because of our family’s future. Benjamin is my son too.”
Arthur’s eyes hardened.
“That account belongs solely to my son.”
Elena’s face changed.
For the first time, she looked afraid.
“Arthur, listen to me—”
“No.”
His voice echoed through the room.
“I have spent my entire life protecting what belongs to my family. I will not allow anyone to take from my child.”
Maria stood quietly beside him.
She had never seen Arthur this angry.
But she also saw something else.
A father protecting his son.
Elena pointed at Maria.
“She has been poisoning your mind against me!”
Arthur turned immediately.
“Stay away from my son right now, Elena.”
The words hit harder than a slap.
Elena stared at him.
“You would throw me away because of her?”
Arthur shook his head.
“No. You did this to yourself.”
She stepped backward.
“You’re choosing a stranger over your wife?”
Arthur looked at Maria.
Then back at Elena.
“Maria has shown more integrity than you ever have.”
The room became painfully quiet.
Elena’s eyes filled with rage.
“You can’t do this.”
Arthur frowned.
“Do what?”
“You can’t just remove me from this house.”
Arthur walked toward the doorway.
“Just watch me protect my home right now.”
Elena’s face turned pale.
Because she realized something.
Arthur was not threatening her.
He had already made his decision.
Maria quietly whispered:
“Thank you for protecting us, Mr. Vance.”
Arthur looked toward Benjamin’s bedroom upstairs.
His expression softened.
“I will never let anyone harm my child’s future.”
But neither Arthur nor Maria knew the truth yet.
The documents were only the beginning.
Because hidden behind those financial records was a secret Elena had spent years protecting.
A secret that could destroy the entire Vance family.
And when Arthur discovered who was really behind the stolen money…
May you like
He would realize the betrayal was much bigger than his wife.
