Chapter 6 - THE WOMAN WHO KNEW THE TRUTH

The alarm woke everyone in the house.

I sat up immediately.

My heart raced.

Not because I knew what was happening.

Because I already knew who it might be.

Diego.

My father entered my room with two security officers behind him.

“Stay here.”

“No.”

He looked at me.

“Elena.”

“I’m tired of hiding.”

He softened.

“You almost died.”

“And I survived.”

The room went quiet.

I stood slowly.

“I spent months believing I had to obey him because he was my husband.”

My voice shook.

“But I’m done being afraid.”

My father looked at me.

Then nodded.

“Stay behind me.”

The security team moved through the house.

Every light was on.

Every hallway was checked.

Then…

A voice came from the living room.

“I’m not here to hurt her.”

Everyone stopped.

A woman stood there.

Not Diego.

Sofia.

My anger exploded.

“You have some nerve coming here.”

She looked exhausted.

Different from the confident woman I remembered.

“I know what you think.”

“I don’t care what you think I think.”

She looked at my stomach.

Then at me.

“I saved you.”

I laughed.

“You expect me to believe that?”

She pulled out a flash drive.

“This is everything.”

My father took one step forward.

“What’s on it?”

“Proof.”

“Of what?”

Sofia looked terrified.

“Of what Diego was planning.”

I crossed my arms.

“Why?”

She looked away.

“Because I realized too late who he really was.”

Nobody spoke.

Then she said something that shocked all of us.

“Diego didn’t love me either.”

I stared at her.

“He used me.”

She continued.

“He told me he was leaving you. He told me the shares would become ours.”

My father took the drive.

“And why should we trust you?”

Sofia looked directly at him.

“Because if Diego finds out I gave you this…”

She swallowed.

“He’ll kill me.”

The room went silent.

My father immediately gave the drive to Rachel.

“Check everything.”

Minutes passed.

Then Rachel’s face changed.

“What?”

She looked at me.

“This is bad.”

My stomach dropped.

“What did you find?”

She turned the laptop around.

Emails.

Photos.

Financial records.

And one message.

From Diego.

The subject line made my blood run cold.

“Final Transfer After Elena Signs.”

My father read it.

His expression became darker with every second.

Then Rachel opened the last file.

A video.

Diego talking to someone.

Someone whose face we couldn’t see.

But we heard his voice.

“Once Elena signs, the company is ours.”

I held my breath.

Then the man answered.

And I recognized the voice.

My heart stopped.

Because it belonged to someone I trusted.

Someone who had been in my family for years.

Someone who had helped raise me.

My father whispered:

“No…”

The video continued.

And the truth about the betrayal finally began to come out.
