Chapter 2 - THE CAMERA HE NEVER KNEW EXISTED

Forty miles away, my father’s phone vibrated.

Alvin Sterling never ignored security alerts.

Especially not after what happened during my pregnancy.

The screen showed one word.

EMERGENCY.

He frowned.

“What happened?”

The moment he opened the notification, his blood ran cold.

Live video.

Mountain retreat.

Outdoor pool area.

And there I was.

His daughter.

On the ground.

Under freezing water.

His hands started shaking.

“No…”

He stood up so quickly his chair fell backward.

The man who built a billion-dollar company had never felt so powerless.

Not when competitors attacked him.

Not when enemies tried to destroy him.

Nothing compared to seeing his pregnant daughter fighting for her life.

He called immediately.

No answer.

Again.

Nothing.

Then the security system sent another alert.

Body temperature critical.

Heart rate unstable.

Movement detected.

Then…

No movement.

Alvin grabbed his coat.

“Get the helicopter ready.”

His assistant looked shocked.

“Mr. Sterling, it’s midnight.”

“I know.”

“Sir—”

“My daughter is dying.”

The room went silent.

Nobody questioned him again.

Back at the mountain house, I could barely see.

The cold had become something else.

Not pain anymore.

Numbness.

My fingers wouldn’t move.

My thoughts were disappearing.

Then suddenly…

A red light flashed on my wrist.

The medical bracelet.

The one Diego hated.

The one he called “my father’s way of controlling my life.”

I remembered his words.

“Your father treats you like a child.”

Maybe he did.

But tonight…

That bracelet was the only reason I was still alive.

A few seconds later, the security alarm activated.

Diego stopped walking.

He turned around.

“What the hell?”

The outdoor cameras rotated toward me.

Recording.

Watching.

Saving every second.

His face changed.

For the first time…

He looked afraid.

Because he finally understood.

He wasn’t hiding anything.

He had created evidence.

I heard him whisper:

“No…”

The door behind him opened.

His mother appeared.

“What happened?”

Diego stared at the camera.

“We need to leave.”

Brenna looked confused.

“Why?”

He didn’t answer.

Because he knew.

It was already too late.

My father had seen everything.

And he was coming.
