Chapter 5 - THE SECRET HIDDEN IN THE CONTRACTS

Three days after the attack, I finally left the hospital.

But I didn’t go home.

Because that place was no longer my home.

It was a crime scene.

My father moved me into his private estate while his lawyers investigated everything Diego had done.

I sat in his office, wrapped in a blanket, staring at the documents on the table.

“I still can’t believe he planned this.”

My father looked at me.

“People show you who they are when they think they have power over you.”

I touched my stomach.

The baby was safe.

That was the only thing keeping me together.

“Dad…”

“Yes?”

“What if I had signed?”

His face hardened.

“Then he would have taken everything.”

My attorney, Rachel, placed another folder on the table.

“And it gets worse.”

I looked at her.

“What?”

She opened the folder.

Inside were bank records.

Property transfers.

Private messages.

My heart started beating faster.

“Diego wasn’t trying to protect the company.”

Rachel shook her head.

“He was trying to control it.”

She pointed at the documents.

“He created a hidden ownership structure. If you signed, he would have gained control of your shares.”

“And the property?”

“Transferred.”

“To who?”

Rachel looked at me.

“Sofia.”

The room went silent.

I already knew.

But hearing the name still hurt.

“The woman he was cheating with?”

My father nodded.

I closed my eyes.

All those nights he said he was working late.

All those business trips.

All those times I felt something was wrong.

My instincts were right.

Then my phone rang.

Unknown number.

I answered.

“Hello?”

A woman’s voice came through.

“Elena.”

My blood froze.

Sofia.

“What do you want?”

She laughed softly.

“You’re making a mistake.”

I stood up.

“You helped him.”

“No.”

Her voice became colder.

“You don’t understand what’s happening.”

“What does that mean?”

Silence.

Then she whispered:

“Diego was never the person in control.”

I frowned.

“What are you talking about?”

Before she answered…

The call ended.

Everyone in the room looked at each other.

My father immediately called his security team.

“Find out where that number came from.”

Rachel looked worried.

“Elena…”

“What?”

She hesitated.

“This might be bigger than Diego.”

That night, I couldn’t sleep.

Because for the first time…

I wondered if Diego wasn’t the mastermind.

Maybe he was just someone’s weapon.

At 2:17 a.m., my father’s security system sent an alert.

Someone had entered the property.

Someone who knew exactly where I was staying.
