Chapter 9 - THE ACCUSATION

The police station felt colder than usual.
Graham sat across from the officer.
“What is the complaint?”
The officer opened a folder.
“Sloane claims you have become unstable.”
Graham almost laughed.
“Unstable?”
“She claims you are acting emotionally and refusing necessary treatment for Maisie.”
Graham stared.
“She is trying to send my daughter away.”
The officer didn’t respond.
Because he had heard both sides before.
That was the problem.
Lies sounded believable when they were carefully prepared.
“Do you have evidence?”
Graham opened his folder.
“Yes.”
Documents.
Emails.
The fake signatures.
The edited recordings.
The officer studied everything.
Then he looked up.
“Why didn’t you report this earlier?”
Graham looked down.
“Because I trusted her.”
That was the hardest truth.
Not that Sloane lied.
That he believed her.
When Graham returned home, Maisie ran toward him.
“Daddy!”
He picked her up.
But then he noticed something.
A small bruise on her wrist.
His expression changed.
“What happened?”
Maisie became quiet.
“Sweetheart.”
She looked away.
“Tell me.”
Finally she whispered:
“Sloane grabbed me.”
The room went silent.
Graham’s voice became gentle.
“When?”
“Before the wedding.”
“Why?”
“She said I was trying to ruin everything.”
Graham closed his eyes.
He wanted to be angry.
He wanted revenge.
But first…
He needed to protect his daughter.
That night, he checked every security camera in the house.
And found something.
A missing recording.
The exact day Sloane claimed Maisie had attacked her.
Someone had deleted the footage.
But the system showed one thing.
The deletion came from inside the house.
From Sloane’s computer.
Graham stared at the screen.
Then another file appeared.
A hidden backup.
A recording nobody knew existed.
He clicked play.
And heard Sloane’s voice.
“After tomorrow, she won’t be our problem anymore.”
Graham stopped breathing.
Then another voice answered.
A man’s voice.
“Good.”
Graham leaned closer.
Because he knew that voice.
May you like
It was someone he never expected.
Someone inside his own family.
