Chapter 10 - THE PERSON BEHIND SLOANE

Graham replayed the recording.

Again.

And again.

The voice became clearer.

He knew it.

But he didn’t want to believe it.

Daniel arrived twenty minutes later.

“Who is it?”

Graham looked at him.

“My father.”

Daniel froze.

“Your father?”

“Richard Grant.”

The man who had always acted like he supported him.

The man who told him Sloane was perfect.

The man who encouraged the wedding.

Graham felt sick.

“Why would he do this?”

Daniel looked at the recording.

“Maybe he wanted something.”

Graham understood immediately.

His father had been unhappy about the company.

About control.

About inheritance.

But Maisie?

His own granddaughter?

They drove to Richard’s house.

The confrontation was short.

Richard didn’t deny it.

That hurt more.

“You knew.”

Graham stood in the living room.

Richard looked calm.

“I knew what was necessary.”

“Necessary?”

“To protect the family.”

Graham stared.

“You planned to take my daughter away.”

Richard sighed.

“Maisie is emotional.”

“She is five.”

“She is holding you back.”

The words cut deep.

Graham stepped closer.

“You’re talking about my child.”

“I’m talking about your future.”

“No.”

Graham shook his head.

“You’re talking about yours.”

Richard looked away.

And that was the answer.

The plan was never about Maisie.

It was about control.

Then Richard said something that changed everything.

“You think Sloane betrayed you?”

A small smile appeared.

“She was only following instructions.”

Graham froze.

“What?”

Richard walked toward the window.

“Sloane didn’t create the plan.”

“Then who did?”

Richard looked back.

And said:

“You did.”

Graham stared.

“What?”

Richard smiled.

“You built the cage yourself.”

Graham’s phone suddenly rang.

It was Daniel.

His voice was urgent.

“Graham.”

“What?”

“I found the original paperwork.”

“And?”

A pause.

Then Daniel said:

“The signature is yours.”

Graham felt the room spin.

“That’s impossible.”

“No.”

Daniel sounded afraid.

“It’s real.”

“How?”

Daniel whispered:

“Because someone made you sign it.”

Graham looked at Richard.

And finally understood.

The biggest secret wasn’t that they forged his signature.

May you like

It was that they had found a way to make him sign the truth…

without knowing what he was signing.
